"Tina! Her Greatest Hits"....are you fucking kidding me? It looks like Oprah replayed that recent Tina/Cher Vegas special in order to help promote the fact that Tina will be hitting the road again soon and is adding more dates. She will perform at the Palace in Nov. When I saw the ad, there was a CD in the corner with a nice new picture of Tina that said "Available Sept 20th". So I just looked it up and I really can't believe it...another greatest hits! She just released "All the Best" in both double disc and single disc versions a few years back. Are they kidding? I remember hearing that the guy from Train was writing new songs for her for a new album...guess they decided against that and figured "Greatest Hits" will sell to those in the world with major OCD. Oh, and of course fans will buy the CD not just for the new cover but for two new tracks plus some alternate verisons of songs. Shame record companies..really!

In 1994, there was a Greatest Hits that was sold at McDonalds! Ironically, it is the "leanest" hits tracklist available. 1. The Best 2. Typical Male 3. What's Love Got To Do With It? 4. Better Be Good To Me 5. I Don't Wanna Fight 6. Nutbush City Limits (90's version) 7. Steamy Windows 8. Let's Stay Together 9. We Don't Need Another Hero 10. Private Dancer [Edited 9/5/08 22:36pm]

One word: Christmas
Around this time of the year, record companies start releasing all these predictable "Greatest Hits" sets, containing the same songs that fans already have. They throw in one or two new songs to make it slightly different than the other compilations. It's ridiculous.

I mean, I know Tina probably doesn't super micro manage like Madonna and isn't super aware of all her albums, and such but she has to know that releasing another "Greatest Hits" is just shit when you released one a few years ago (and a superior one also with a batch of new songs....I really liked those new songs as well). I always blame the record companies but I'm not so sure...maybe this is Tina and Roger involved as well. Tina could totally go on tour with a few new album but chances are, a greatest hits would sell much better (worked for Cher....when her last tour which was actually in support of "Living Proof" (although it only featured like two of those songs and was mostly a rehash of her prior show) went on so long, they decided to release a greatest hits to coincide with the tour and a special that played on NBC. I thought "All the Best" a few years ago was a great solid and needed collection. I would even suggest that the boxed set and the soundtrack weren't over the top...but this is totally pushing the limits....she just released a greatest hits...sorry...that was a best of! And my mom bought that "Greatest Hits" from McD's when it came out and was pissed that her favorite Tina song, "River Deep, Mountain High" wasn't on there. Cinne, I like the lean joke. [Edited 9/6/08 11:11am] The greed is 100% with the labels. Especially this time of year, labels will re-package hits and get it out because its a NO LOSE deal, they dont spend anything for the most on the marketing, they dig up some tracks to add on as a bonus or they have the artist if still under contract throw on something new. There is no loss in this for them, and after a year of losing money at labels these are what you call "sure hits" regardless of where they chart or if they chart, its all a positive. So thats why Xtina has got one, Annie Lennoz, Tina, and you will see tons tons more in the next few weeks get talked about. Her oscar winning song was not a proper album, so it's left off. Her first solo hit with Al Green was on a soundtrack as well (and so might say it's a Christmas song but it isn't....it's a cover of a non Xmas track) so it's not on there either. I'm sure Cristina's album will be more of the same (although since "Lady Marmalade" was such a bit hit, you can't leave that one off) but then again I heard she will be rerecording songs...weird!

I know I was disappointed. It's been rumored that she had recorded a full-length album during 2006-2007. Even the producer's names were mentioned, everything! Then - bang- another hits collection. I've pre-ordered it. I guess i'm just a sheep.

Can you belive "Acid Queen" is being included on this one? The last time it appeared on a US hits collection was the box set back in '94.

I think it really is the best compilation of her modern stuff.. I wouldn't even expect "River Deep.." to be on there.
