My original choice was MJ working with The Neptunes. Pharrell knows MJ's catalog well and few would remember that he actually interviewed MJ a while back and told him the "That's What You Get For Being Polite (off the Destiny album) was one of his favorite cuts. Now when you listen to a statement like that and listen to Usher's "You Don't Have To Call" (which was rumored to be have been originally written for MJ to sing on) and even Justin's first solo album - you know that Pharrell knows MJ's sound better than most of the cats that Michael is working with now (Will-I-Am and Akon to name a few). The biggest mistake that MJ made during the time of Invincible was not releasing "Butterflies" as the first single; complete with a video and a nice classy makeover in the image department. Overall, I agree with many of you and think that he should do to a back-to-basics style production with more live instrumentation and just kill the game.

Pharrell would actually be a good choice for Michael. He's great at creating retro funk/disco sounds. On Madonna's latest CD,he came up with some great songs that are reminscent of her 80s work ("Give It To Me","She's Not Me","Heartbeat" and "Beat Goes On").It's clear that he used Madonna's first album as inspiration. With Michael,he would probably use 'Off The Wall' as his inspiration.Didn't he produce "Rock Your Body" for Justin Timberlake? That's exactly the type of retro groove that Michael needs! It sounds like an 'Off The Wall' outtake.

actually even the work on madonna's album would have been perfect for mj, especially the beat goes on, incredible, give it to me

YES! I believe that song is the mj and madonna duet that never took place! Can you imagine that being In the Closet on Dangerous?

I was thinking the same thing!! Justin even sounds like he's imitating Michael (especially on the chorus). This would have been a perfect Madonna/Michael duet.

He can make a decent album at this point if he does what Janet did with Discipline and lets other people write the songs. He clearly lost his fire in the late '90s, and after the psychological hammering of the trial and his new life as a father of three, I think it's unrealistic to expect him to recover his mojo, but if he picks great songs written by others (like "Whatever Happens") he could put out something that would bring him new kudos. I wouldn't hold your breath though.

Hmmm, there were five people listed on the credits for that song. It's hard not to be suspicious in those circumstances. Doesn't really make a difference though. He was unable to produce just one new song for the Number Ones album and it seems obvious that his priorities have shifted. Friends of his from the early '00s paint a picture of a man who had lost his hunger. You can always hope for a recovery, but I think that's unrealistic. He has kids now, he's older. Most artists lose it eventually and Michael has a lot more to distract him than they do.

I don't know about him not being able to write a hit song anymore, since I can't see inside his studio, but I definitely agree that he seems to have lost that hunger after HIStory.

Does he? Most artists end up settling down and having kids and MJ is no different. Why should that mean he doesn't have the time to commit to his music?

Come on, dude. You don't really need me to remind you of all the shit Mike's gotta contend with, do you? It's not about time. It's about shit that preys on your mind. Being Michael Jackson must be a very messy business. Very messy. He nearly lost Neverland early this year and his finances are still a mess. Brother's got about twenty lawsuits filed against him? That trial must still haunt him. And he's raising those kids as a single father, don't forget. Combine that with the fact that he's competing with his own former self and you can see why he may be less focused than he once was.

In the past, his life was simpler, which is partly why he looks back with such nostalgia on Thriller and Off The Wall. His life will never be that simple again.

Probably more than 20 lawsuits. I remember reading he's one of the most sued entertainers out there lol He's been sued HUNDREDS of times over the past 25 years
