A great song with a fantastic groove. I love the sax part in the middle of the song. And Bill Wyman's bass playing is simply addictive! I actually had posted a comment about this song awhile back on this forum. I stated that I felt that the sound of the song was more closer to funk instead of disco. But listening to it again a few weeks ago, I can now clearly hear the strong disco influence in the song's rhythm. So I have to change my opinion about it being more funk than disco. Its defiantly much more of a disco song. Oh well!

Takes me back to the summer of 1978 music This is my favorite Rolling Stones song. It's funkier than their usual stuff and the beat is sorta disco-ish.In fact,I remember hearing this song on our local R&B station.

Mick started writing it (with Billy Preston on drums) during soundcheck at The El Mocambo, here in T.O.

For those that don't know, that was a very eventful trip. lol The Stones played surprise shows at this venue, 'cause they wanted to have a "club" side on the 2-LP Love You Live. The Prime Minister's wife (Maggie Trudeau) showed up and shagged Ron Wood (although, for years, the rumors were that it had been Mick). And Keith Richards was busted in his hotel room and charged with possession of heroin with the intent to traffic. Looked pretty bleak for Keith for a while: he had to remain here, awaiting trial, and was facing several years in jail. Got off with a benefit for the CNIB. Was barred from the country for about a decade.

Now the Stones rehearse here and were awarded the key to the city in '03 (for putting on "SARSstock" for "our favourite city"). Life's funny, innit? lol

Hell yeah, my favorite Rolling Stones song. The Rolling Stones gone disco. Several pop/rock acts made a disco song back then, even Kiss. That was one of the other reasons for the backlash against disco besides racism and homophobia. Rockers were seeing their own making disco songs and they felt like it was taking over and snuffing out rock. Too bad the funkers didn't do the same and start a backlash against hip hop once it turned into shit hop.

Yeah in the late 70s,even the rockers were jumping on the disco bandwagon...

"Miss You" by the Rolling Stones
"Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart
"Shine A Little Love" by ELO
"Goodnight Tonight" by Paul McCartney and Wings
"I Was Made For Lovin You" by KISS

Hell,I bet the Beatles would have done a disco album if they had still been together in the late 70s lol

Even a country artist, Dolly Parton, made a disco record called "Baby I'm Burnin'".

My 1st introduction to the Stones. My mother brought home the 12 inch long version and played it non-stop. The Stones ruled in the 70's. Can't believe it's been 30 years.

Thirty years on, owning all their albums and over 250 bootlegs, this remains my favourite song of theirs. It was the first Stones song, I ever heard, the first record I ever bought. Who can honestly say they still love the first record they ever bought?

I am not real crazy about getting into this subject matter again, but let me just say this(once again). I have never bought into the whole argument or the statements that people hated disco because they were racist. The homophobia, well, I am not real sure about that or not, so I wont get into this part of the discussion. But remember that even many of the punk artists of that era, whose music was very much known for addressing many social problems, including various forms of oppression and inequality, also disliked disco music. I think the reason for all of the dislike and disrespect for disco, as I have said before on here, was due to rock artists feeling that the music lacked any sort of the real kind of drive, passion, originality and genuine authenticity of rock(and rock 'n' roll) music. I think this was the reason for much of the distain for the whole disco era. Sure, I could easily be wrong about all this, but I do feel that in this case, that it was the actual reason behind all of it.

Ironically, some rock artists were jumping on the disco bandwagon themselves in the late 70s lol And yes, there was alot of racism and homophobia imvolved with the diso backlash (even Bruce Springsteen agrees with this) but that's another thread...lol...I don't wanna open a can of worms on this thread.

Many thought this was the first type of song the Stones had done. Not true. Although it's not disco, many songs on their album "Black and Blue" album is straight funk/r&b. They show their love for the Ohio Players, who were very popular at the time of this release. Especially on cuts like "Hot Stuff", and "Fool To Cry". But yeah, I dig "Miss You". So did Prince...which is obvious in his cut "Uptown". Musically, it's damn near the same cut.

The Stones are just great role models. lol

I really dig this period of their career, especially when they came out with "Start Me Up" not long after. Maybe their best track. They were both rocking but funky at this time. I think the album after this though was really shitty, though.

The Beatles might have done a disco album and saved the genre from being a laughing stock (although disco never died..it just became several different genres considered dance).

I think I've said this before, but I always wondered if Elvis would have made a disco album. The fact that his music was veering more toward country suggests that maybe that's where his heart was and nobody could tell him what to do. But the fact that it would be almost a surefire big hit had to be tempting. Hell, "Burning Love" isn't all that far from disco. If he did stuff like that, it not only could have been a hit but wouldn't have been laughable, either. It could have been funky and great. Then again, if he was totally into drugs and abandoned the sessions, it could have been more of an embarrassment than the Ethel Merman disco album.

That was my introduction to both Rolling Stones and Kiss via disco. It started a mini-trend of discovering rock artists through atypical songs like slow or more dance-oriented songs.
