The pop/rock artists of the 1980s. During that era, there was so much good funk being made that I could care less about pop/rock. After everything good on the R&B side died, then I went back and started exploring the pop/rock artists of the 1980sm such as my idol whitney houston.

I said I started exploring pop/rock, not pop/adult contemporary. lol

Hey she did a good pop album with DIGNITY (and tons on this forum agree) unlike Mariah and others who didnt do good Pop albums. What made DIGNITY good was the fact that it wasnt what todays mainstream likes, thats why it was good. And also a good record is a good record, Britney Spears first 3 albums werent good and her last 2 were, Christina Aguileras first album was crap and the last two werent. And age has nothing to do with it, why can Hilary a 21 year old make a mature record for people OLDER than her now, while Janet and Mariah who are 40 year olds make records aimed for teenagers? so whats the better thing to do? its that simple do a good record and its good do shit and its shit.
[Edited 9/1/08 19:24pm]

THAT DOES NOT MAKE A GOOD SON
NO what makes a song good is when it sound good, and old, and young can enjoy. A good song will be remembered, and even change history, lol lol

that song wasn't GOOD AT ALL. i listen to that generic "rock" song. and you label it as pop, but i will say water down "soft rock". It was nothing special, it actually sounds like half that stuff the jonas, miley cirus sings.

why did you bring up janet or mariah???? aren't we talking about Hillary's song. which was not a good pop song. SOrry but pop means POPULAR. Opps i did it again/slave/baby one more time was a better pop song. That was embraced by the pop culture.

POP does not mean POPULAR, sorry. POP is the way a song is constructed, and it has nothing to do with sales, there is plenty of POP music that doesnt sell, popular music and pop music are two totally different things, just look through any era of music, if you are judging on sales then Linkin Park or Metallica are POP groups? please already with this nonsense..

Sorry you dont dig the Duff album, but its clearly a POP album, to lump it with the Jonas Brothers is being blind and def. The duff album is a club/pop album, the jonas brothers are Fall out Boy for five year olds.

lmao @ fall out boy for five year olds, that's perfect!

And hilary is still a disney star so it makes sense to lump her in with the jonas brothers and miley, when I first saw miley while flipping channels I thought it was hilary and had no clue who she was.

I liked with love last year and thought it was an improvement, but still don't care for her.

You can lump her in but the Dignity album sounds nothing like anything those others have done, or are doing. Im sure one day Miley will do that "kind" of record if she doesnt fall off the deep end like so many others.

miley sucks, I don't see her lasting, she's only living off her one hit wonder dad, I was bored one day and watched her show to see what all the fuss was about and I just didn't get it.

Not for anything but she has a big fucking head, and im not talking EGO, im talking her head is huge. Shes 16 and her head is the size of someone that is grown up.

I agree with you there. I'd say at least half of the 80's rock I've bought, past or present, has been in the last 10 years. That is a direct result of my declining taste for new hip-hop, R&B, and Prince's recent works.

don't get me started on hilary, she looked like a washed up 50 year old one time when she was on ET for like 30 seconds and very skinny, her face did NOT look like a 19 year old at all at the time, it was all sunken in like mj's

Yeah she admitted awhile back that she lost weight because the PRESS called her the duff puff, basically saying she was fat, once again, the media not having a clue what FAT is, this is why Mariah looks like a twig now instead of how she looked 2 years ago. Plus she was dating that crack-head guy from good charolette, knowing him he probably locked her up from food.

That may happen with me, too. In the 80's I was discovering disco, hip hop, & R&B, listening to crappy pop, and pretty much ignored the rock of the day, with the exception of the most popular video-era-pop-rock like Van Halen or Robert Palmer.

Same here. I HATED her previous Disney music but Dignity was a very solid album. Happy is my favourite song off that record. It's a shame the album didn't do better.

well the thing is, people who like that genre of music will enjoy the album. But for me i don't like that genre, just the fact it uses gutair, strings, and the same instruments every other modern day "pop rock" star uses.

Uh...don't talk to me.

Im on the opposite with them. Not that i dont like them, im just like OK with them now. Dug from the start through KID A, and then it all started to lose me, not that i hated any of the records after KID A, but i found myself getting bored with them quicker and quicker.

I wasn't a big fan at first, but I've grown to love them. I love OK Computer (and you named my two favorites along with "No Surprises"), but The Bends is still their best for me. In Rainbows is also an exceptionally strong showing.

Not that I disliked her before, I just didn't see what the big deal is. Her voice sounded too plain, esp comparing to her rivals @ the time,,,,,and I thought her music was abit too leaned on the "white-washed" side. Beside, she was the target of EVERY joker back when I was growing up,,,,,and ya'll know the reason why lol

Of course, it took abit of a growing up to do to finally dig her stuff. The REAL reason why she's so appealing to me is, you can't really label her,,,,any artist, esp BLACK artist who refuse to be stuffed in a box,,,worth the tip of my hat, TWICE!

Madonna

I liked some of her songs but I hated her as a person. I thought that she was a media bitch who would do anything to get on the news, which was, well, true. I used to want bad things to happen to her. I REALLY hated her. Things started to change when the song Ray of Light came out. I was having a bout with depression at the time and that song helped me get through it. I realized that all the time I was dogging Madonna, I was pretty much a closet fan cause I was following what she was doing and digging most of her music. I got the Ray of Light CD and I really dug it and I became a fan from that point on. She still annoys me and I still dog her from time to time but I am a fan and I don't wish her any ill will anymore.

This I will say. She had some jams early on. "Borderline," "Lucky Star," "Get Into The Groove," "Holiday" . . . she was hot for a minute.

Then she became Madonna, Inc.

But she's been very shrewd, for the most part.
