OMG...

That clip just got me depressed.

I'm so sad for her.

It's like she would be in her 80's.

So sad... So sad. sad

Apparently, the problems with her voice is why her new CD still isn't completed. She really ruined her voice in recent years, with the drugs and all.

I understand the voice is an instrument of the body, which she abused with the use of drugs, but I don't quite understand HOW her range and pitch could be affected by drugs (unless a person is actually high during the performance and it has clouded their judgement). Just the harsh chemicals passing through her throat? It's like a heavy smoker's voice now.

Whitney was (or is???) technically fantastic.... But honestley, I'm not a fan because she got no artistic integrity. She's not in charge of her careeer as Madonna would say. I imagine it's one of her managers to come and say: Whitney, THIS producer is hip, you HAVE to do that and they wrote 12 new songs for you."

she has no input wahsoever in her music and what was her last great song? "Your Love Is My Love"???

She never had a mind of her own since day one. First, she lets an old gray haired white senior citizen tell her to tone it down because it's too black. Then, when she gets booed and called an oreo, she finds her a black man to marry. Then, the man beats her ass, goes to jail, and the dumb heffer is standing outside the jail awaiting his return to jump into his arms and wraps her legs around his waist like a damn teenage cheerleader. He needed to beat her ass because apparently that's what she wanted.

Everything in her life, she's done because someone else has told her to. She couldn't even get into drugs on her own. Her husband had to introduce her to it.

Most drugs and vices dry out the vocal chords – cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol, and cocaine. From what I’ve seen, Whitney didn’t appear to have a healthy lifestyle for maintaining her voice. She smoked, drank, talked loud and often, laughed loud, ate fried foods. Anything going up the nose is going to affect the sinuses and throat. Obviously lots of singers do these things but not all to overuse and/or they do treatments to care for their chords to alleviate any (potential) damage. When a person really cares for their voice, they can almost seem compulsive to regular folks.

I think someone mentioned genetics may have played a part for Whitney.

Again, it's sad, and at this point, everytime people start talking about all the reasons why Whitney lost her VOICE, I think about Donna Summer. Donna is almost 60 and she still can sing her heart out after a 4-decade career.

So for me, Donna is THE VOICE.

Love her wink

She`s always had an absolutely gorgeous voice..... Her last album wasn`t all that, she should make a real soul album, cause the slow songs really fits her voice....

And what makes Donna a thousand times better than Shitney is the most important point.....Donna could jam. Yeah, Shitney had a voice but look what she was using it over....something dull as hell.

OK, now that I've finally heard it, I agree with Cinnie even more: it does sound like a heavy smoker's voice now.

I liked 'Crayons' when it was first released but I haven't listened it to it very much.I think it's a good, solid album but for some reason,it didn't hold my attention very long confuse I think Donna should do a strong,powerful,take-no-prisoners dance/disco album. An album that's strictly for the dancefloor....like Cher's 'Believe' or Madonna's 'Confessions On A Dancefloor'.That's her main audience these days, anyway.

That style of singing is a little outdated. But she sounds good for what it is.She needs to do what Prince does and update her old music and mabye it would sound better.

I love that Cher album and that's definately the type of stuff that Donna should be doing. However, I didn't care for that Madonna album at all. It sounded too European trance for me. I loved the "Erotica" album and tracks like "Thief Of Hearts" which was back before house became trance and it was funky. When I heard that "Confessions" was an all dance album, that's the type stuff I was expecting.

But yeah, Donna would sound great doing some of that Cher type stuff.
