Does anybody know or could make a close estimate on a percentage scale how much of the J5's material are covers and how much are originals? Including Michaels solo motown work? I've always wondered this. It seems like most of it was covers.

Most of their early year material were covers. Hell, on their debut album, only 2 were originals (3 if you count "You've Changed" which is a remake of themselves.)

Delfonics song "Can you remember, when we were children" and the J5 song "Can you remember, when we were babies" since the J5 were children ...

Looking at the unreleased material that's still in the vaults, Motown could easily release a "The Jackson 5 Sings The Motown Classics" boxset or seperate

"Jackson 5 Sings Marvin Gaye"
"Jackson 5 Sings Stevie Wonder"
"Jackson 5 Sings Four Tops and Temptations"
"We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

The Jackson 5 did more covers than original songs it seems, lol.

They did a cover of Ray Charles' "A Fool for You" too. Showed Michael singing the blues like something heavy on that.

They weren't that good on the Marvin Gaye joints...then again I'm a biased MPG fan. lol

Some of my favourites are 'We've got Blue Skies',

'If I Have to Move a Mountain'

'Can I See You In The Morning'

(Come round here) I'm The One You Need

I don't know if all of these are covers though, just assuming. All the original Jackson 5 songs seem to be in the 'ABC' mode

Well damn! lol The beauty of The Jackson 5ive is that they were so talented, some of those covers were better or more well known than the original versions

"With A Child's Heart" and "Who's Lovin' You" come to mind

They did so many great covers. "Stand!", "Ready or Not", the list goes on, but I think my favourite has to be "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing". It may not be as well known as the original, but I think it's by far the best version. It's musical perfection in my eyes/ears.
