That was cool to see the first live performace of the song before it was ever recorded.
Sting had dark hair and sang with an urgency of youth that has mellowed over the years. There are so many live versions of MIAB on Youtube you can kind of pop in to various years and track the evolution of the song. The drum parts changed as Copeland added more gear to his kit and the bass sound is much much more distinct and forward in the mix. And of course they are far more seasoned and adept musicians after playing for so many years that there are tonal subtlties and flourishes that have been added. Very cool. | |
