Something happend to rock throughout the 90's and the 00's, it lost more than its balls, it lost its SOLOS, Remember those things? those guitar and drum solos that stretched the track and gave it life and some sort of heart? the problem is that a whole generation has no clue on what a solo is. Well in 2008 something happend.....rock returned

Well Journey has sold 450,000 with no promotion, Rick Springfield sold enough to give him a top 30 debut which he hadnt had in 20 years, Mpt;ey Crue sold 300,000 to date with no play either, and all are making major money on tour. Sales are useless at this point because of these artists are indie and indie sales dont always count as we know, plus look what is selling now, Fall out boy Gym class heroes and Jonas Brothers, thats what they call ROCK now, those cats coulndt play an instrument or solo if there lives depended on it.

The extreme is amazing, i got it about a month ago, and havent stopped listening. Best tracks are "Interface" "Star" "Peace" and "Last Hour" as for RICK well what can i say, its his best moment, for a 59 year old to sound this fresh and rock this hard, it clearly shows that artists do get better with age, perfect album, good riffs, very catchy, and his band is super tight. Best cuts from RICK though its hard to pick , these are the ones i have played the most. "She", "Warning Shots" "whats victorias secret" "i'll miss that someday" and "Oblivious" but its a perfect album

Well thats an opinion, but the thing is none of their playing is overpolished, and clearly none that is on these records. I listened to Extreme's album and Nuno's solo's and what he is playing and he is fucking light years above and beyond anyone out there, he makes Prince like a nobody on the guitar. And overpolished is what is out there now, for about 5 minutes i bought into bands like Nirvana and realized they were doing nothing special, and listening to the Foo Fighters im amazed that people call them gods of rock, i mean really? they are barely an average band at best.

Rick's album is in general very catchy like alot of his stuff but that "Victoria's Secret" song sounds too much like a re-write of "Jessie's Girl" IMO.

But there are other rock albums you might want to look out for in the coming months..... Queen + Paul Rodgers's Cosmos Rocks (out in mid-September in Europe, in October in USA) and the new AC-DC album which will be released in October as well.

The night ranger blew me away, i never knew they could play that well. The White Lion album is strong, the kick off song on that album is called "Sangre de cristo" and its a blistering 9 minute rock song, very raw. The Motley album is excellent and i was surprised too. Extreme is kick ass just from the playing and the harmonies of Cherone-Bettencourt, to me Extreme are the only band to ever really get what "QUEEN" was about.

I heard Def Leppard returned this year aswell? I do have some of their recent stuff and its shocking. Luckily I bought them in skips. May need a re-listen, but honestly, they lost it big time after "retroactive" (though I must actually hear "slang", as I do own it, as its meant to be a bit underated)

Theres been some good rock albums so far this year. I've yet to hear the White Lion or Night Ranger albums but out of all the others..ie Motley Crue, Journey, Whitesnake, Def Leppard and Extreme..the Whitesnake album is the pick of the bunch. It really is very strong. The only turkey out of them is Def Leppard. They're my girlfriends favorite band and shes barely plays it. The songwriting is poor and the whole thing is really insubstantial.

ACDC is the only band I see mentioned that may still do that.
