This is a must watch. I was going crazy when they were playing his vocals on Pro Tools "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Marvin had such an affect on me not only as a child but, all throughout my teen and adult years. I remember the first time that I heard him sing. My dad had brought home the album that contained his song,"That's the way love is". Upon hearing his voice I was like, "WOW, I wanna do that". I then took my lunch money and brought every album that he had made. He voice unlike anything that I have ever heard, you could hear the pain within every line that he song. Like 9/11, I remember the night he died VERY well. It was a Sunday night and my uncle had been cutting my dad's hair. I was in the other room and it came over the TV that he had been shot. I immediately, ran into my parents bedroom with the news. Upon hearing it, my uncle's firsts words were "You're Shitting, me". By that time, word had spread and they had heard it for themselves. That was the first time that I saw my dad cry. It was surreal.
I read a few years later that Marvin had called on Barry White to produce the follow up to "Midnight Love", but it never was. Did you all catch Deon Estus, of Wham on bass in the jam session scene? My favorite performance of Marvin's will always be the "Star Spangled Banner". It gives me chills every time. Thank you guys for letting me tell my story. I enjoy docs on Marvin, I enjoyed A&E Biography on Marvin and my favorite was Inner City Blues that aired on MTV but in the early 90s, but if so-called Marvin Gaye biographer David Ritz is in it, I avoid it like the plague.

Thanks, sometimes I tend to go on and on, but Marvin just had an affect on me. Since I consider you all family, I figured that I might as well share. I, too am a HUGE fan of Marvin's "Star Spangled Banner!" Have you seen the Nike commercial that started running during the Olympics (I think) with clips of him singing it? Got those chills all over again! Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

Never anybody who's been departed for over 20 years move me the way Marvin does!

Thanks, man! Watched it like a parched throat takes to cool liquid.
I would have watched it on TV back in May, but I didn’t know it was on.

I thought it was very classy -- probably my favorite sports commercial since Sampras/Agassi guerilla tennis. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Sounds just like the ones I have on vinyl and on video. I know how some people feel about using music icons in commercials, but if it's well done as this one is (I agree, AlexdeParis!) I have no problem with it. I'm glad to see him again and I know some folks have never heard this version before. Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.
