What was THAT all about? The flute? The hat? The black and white?
Tell us something more so we know if you are serious, so we can go 'not my cuppa tea' or if you are chynical, so we can go 'hahaha'. This way it's hard to figure out of you are serious or just tweaking us. plural edit [Edited 8/24/08 14:53pm]

Os Mutantes are one of the most influencial groups that came from Brasil!
Beck and Kurt Cobain are/were fans of them! It's a shame you can't grasp them. They are at the same level as the beatles. I think you don't like the portuguese language. That's why u can't grasp them [Edited 8/24/08 15:04pm]

That's why u can't grasp them I hear no Beatles, hehehe. I hear people that took alotta drugs and thought they sounded cool. I can get those cool cats liking it and hearing more than I hear. I looooove the Portugese language, btw. I think it's a very poetic language, if sung poetically. It sounds like a kazillion times better than anything sung in Dutch, i can assure you.

and before u start with the usual rambling...read this:
When Os Mutantes was formed, it combined influences from the English-speaking psychedelic acts like The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix with the sounds of bands like Sly & the Family Stone.Although they met with limited success in their own time, Os Mutantes also influenced a great number of Brazilian bands such as Pato Fu, Júpiter Maçã and Sepultura, who recorded a cover of the song "A Hora E A Vez Do Cabelo Nascer". In addition, many contemporary underground or independent bands in the United States and Europe cite Os Mutantes as a major influence. Kurt Cobain publicly requested a reunion tour from the trio in 1993, writing a letter to Arnaldo Baptista.Cobain was introduced to them by Pat Fear from White Flag (whose collaboration with Redd Kross and other friends under the name The Tater Totz was the first American band to cover or even cite Os Mutantes on their 1988 LP Alien Sleestaks from Brazil). Beck paid tribute to the group with his single "Tropicália" from the album Mutations. The Bees covered A Minha Menina on their first album, Sunshine Hit Me. Kevin Barnes of of Montreal cites Os Mutantes as an important influence.Talking Heads frontman David Byrne has worked to publish and promote the group's music through his Luaka Bop label

I never changed my taste because of namesdropping, hehehe. The fact I adore both Beatles and Nirvana does not mean I automatically like the people they influenced.
Like this band, there are alot of bands around the world who fed off the same sources, but too psychedelic stuff just never reaches me. For instance, I certainly do not like everything Jimi Hendrix ever did. I actually kinda like the first part of this song, even though the vocals are not something that would make me want to check them out. They lose me TOTALLY with the weirding out, esp the flute. But I'l get that album, as soon as my computer is back online and I got downloading capability. I'm not afraid to check stuff out beyong just one song. And thanks for the rambling remark, fellow rambler. [Edited 8/24/08 15:18pm]

I love Os MUtantes. I own their first 2 albums on vinyl! Excellent music, and as said before a great inspiration to Beck (listen to Odelay)
Experimental and deranged. The Mutamtes re-united for a short festival tour a few years back! "Time is a train, makes the future the past"

Great band from the 60s. I have their early albums on CD. Weird, there's a McDonalds commercial using their music, look for the one with the little soccer boys in it.
