No, they aren't; AAC was developed as the successor to MP3. But every iPod has always been able to play MP3 files. AAC support wasn't added until about 18 months after the original iPod debuted.

they need to develop something that makes the sound quality good

The sound quality is fine. You can use as much or as little compression as you want (including lossless) and any set of headphones. There is very little sacrifice in sound quality in comparison to the gains in portability.

The portability is the only plus of digital, sound is a big minus, but that sound quality has been lost since the original shift to cd, its a cheaper process so sacrifices were made. The big complaint i have with digital and my iPod is that i even forget what i have and often lose interest in music alot quicker. I still get bombarded by new stuff from labels from connections that i had, and they give me new stuff that they get in advance, so i just added to my ipod and hardly ever even care its there.

Mine is 80GB and not even half filled. It currently contains over 4,8000 songs which I'll never get through completely because I'm always adding, or switching to a playlist which restarts the count.

Last 10 played: Counting back from #951

Mind Blowing Decisions - Heatwave
You're The One - Lou Rawls
Have It Your Way - S.O.S. Band
Sunday Morning - Maroon 5
Cherry Blossom Girl - Air
I Need A Beat - LL Cool J
No True Love - The Dixie Cups
Some Folks Never Learn - Lou Rawls
Maddening Shroud - Frou Frou
Desire - Andy Gibb
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

The portability is the only plus of digital

Storage space is also a huge advantage.

Its an advantage to a certain extent, you can have 20,000 songs with you at all times if you want, but your battery is dead after about 100, especially if you are skipping around. There is always gonna be some kind of sacrifice, my feeling is that for music lovers that are eliminating alot and returning a little, Sound is a big thing, album art, lyrics, credits etc.. all that stuff is going to disappear soon. As Rick Springfield said in an interview for his new record, " technology is great, people dont really care about who plays on a record anymore like they used to, thought i might still care, very few do.

lol. i know.

thats all i deal with..... full length albums like i had a collection of real cd's. no "loose" songs or weird "mixes"... (a couple mixtapes tho, only offical ones like jadakiss 'the champ is here' or joe buddens 'mood muzik' series.)

but yeah....my 80GB ipod has been full for quite some time now. im constantly removing movies to put new albums on the ipod. the new rapahel saadiq album is coming soon and i have no space. im gonna have to delete 'gladiator' and make room for new music, sad

...and whats worse is i have more albums, movies, and music videos on my external harddrive so if i were to get a 160GB ipod, that would also be full too.
