But I admit having a difficult time liking the one's I don't believe.

If you are singing a song you did not write - then you better be able to FEEL it. I see young performers singing hard and making faces but I don't BELIEVE them.

Generally I think it's a waste of energy to hate art. I think art either moves you or it doesn't, there's no need for hatred. And most good art is at least somewhat of an acquired taste, ie you might not fully appreciate it at first and you may have to open your mind to "get into" it. I think when people say they hate an artist, a musician specifically, it's their personality, or their fans, or their perceived over-exposure or over-hype that they don't like, or they just resent that they feel they "have to like" someone. All of those things are separate from the art itself and one should be able to get past those things to make a fair judgment of someone's music.

The major caveat to that though, is that I dislike art that is emotionally ingenuine, ie "fake" art, art that's primary intent is commercial and not artistic. Even then though, it's more the principle behind it rather than the music itself. The music itself is usually just bland or mediocre, not really worth hatred. The only music that goes beyond "it doesn't move me" to "I find it really obnoxious" is music that has a "perfect storm" of negative attributes: insincerity, shallowness, and a seeming fatuous pride in how shallow or stupid it is and just about the only music I can think of off the top of my head that has all of those things is the worst of mainstream top 40 rap and buttrock.

That being said though there are plenty of musicians who I dislike as people, and most of them I have little to no respect for their art either

I do admit I do have some backlogged resentment against him, being a Backstreet Boys' fan and all. Oddly enough though, I've got nothing against the other 4 members of *N SYNC. Kinda like them, actually.

I do not have irrational hatreds of "artists," but more an irrational hatred of "personas." Some personas just get on my nerves.
