Musiq- Radio I'm wondering if anyone's feeling his new song Radio.
It's not happening to me. He totally went left field on this one. There's a small article on him in sister 2 sister where he is snapping on people who don't like snap and crunk music. He also snaps on people who don't like ringtone music. His new single is crunk influenced. You reckon it has anything to do with him living in Atlanta now. Well if he chooses to sell out that way and leave his soulful philly roots behind more power to him but i wouldn't spend a dime on this bullshit if my life depended on it. Don't laugh at my funk

Im gonna check this song out. I pray that he has not been influenced
by crunk. He was one of the few R&B artists that I could count on to deliver a pretty solid effort. We gonna come on with the come on, gonna get down with the get down!

I like this song because it is a departure for him. I just hope the entire project is not like this. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

My God the song sucks smelly monkey balls! I give him props for wanting to change up his style but not like that. He sounds like he's desperate for a hit. It's just plain terrible and I am not buying this CD thanks to this one song alone. YUCK! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

my cousins went to Chaka Khan's show in Atlantic city over the weekend where Musiq opened up. She said he was horrible. but chaka khan was great.
maybe he was having an off night but she thinks he's not a good live performer. i've never seen him live but i still believe in his talent. and for this new song..i'm perplexed. what direction he's going with this? [Edited 8/19/08 14:48pm]

I think he debuted in 98 with "Sunny (Just Friends)". His last hits were "Teachme" and "B.U.D.D.Y." that utilized the sample of "Heartbeat" from Taana Gardner. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Of course, after hearing him sing on the ONA live set, I decided quickly that I would not invest in any of his live shows. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

The only albums that I can tolerate by him is his latest CD, Luvanmusiq and Juslissen. The rest is just crappy, by-the-numbers, generic contemporary R&B mixed with hip-hop. I never really understood why people considered him to be a true neo soul artist. It seemed that when record execs thought it would be wise for him to cut his hair and slicken his image, they made him conform to something he wasn't. This new song is just everything that is wrong with much of black music right now. Like some said, He just needs money and is desperate for a hit, since all of his albums since his second one have flopped. [Edited 8/20/08 8:12am] Check me out and add me on:

I didn't really care much for the debut album. Juslisen was cool but i thought
soulstar was his best. I know i'm in the minority but to me that album lived up to it's title and probably was the reason it was so under the radar because of today's music climate. There was absolutely no hip hop or guest rap stars on the album. He had some very slick soulful ballads on this album like who knows, the reason, whereareyougoing, and the stevie wonderesque songs her and givemorelove. I also dug you love me, forethenight, and romancipation. I'm surprised his soulstar album don't get no love from the org. As far as luvanmusiq i only could tolerate buddy, dug teach me a lot, and one other uptempo cut from the album. The rest to me was just bland. I guess he is desperate for a hit if he have to resort to something as awful as radio just because he moved to ATL. Don't laugh at my funk

[Edited 8/20/08 8:12am] I agree. I enjoyed his last album. It was very consistent. It amazes me that he has sustained a career this long. He has an ok voice, but, overall, is not a good singer. What has been his saving glory are this tracks. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

What has been his saving glory are this tracks. I think he's a good songwriter. His tracks are usually good so I agree with that. His voice is okay but most of the artists I grew up on had "okay" voices. The stringent singing constraints of nowadays to sound stereotypical are part of the reason why R&B sucks. His biggest problem in my opinion is that his material is almost all ballads. B-U-D-D-Y is about as fast as he gets. And yes, this new track is very bottom-of-the-barrel for him. On 106th and Park, he made sure to mention that this is just one song on the CD and the whole CD is not like this, so I bet that the choice to release this song as a single was not his or else he wouldn't have had to qualify his music like that.

Oh, I've heard of him y'all. As a matter of fact, I think he's on one of Prince's aftershow CD's in which a friend made a copy of for me. I just thought it was funny as hell that not only can these little youngsters come up with their own music, now they can't even come up with their own name. Andy is a four letter word.

Egads, you think Musiq's a "good songwriter?"...why? I think his voice is his best quality. He's more of a vocalist than a songwriter, imho. I don't watch TV but if Musiq did utter those words on 106 & Park, then yes, he's certainly letting his true fans know that the entire album doesn't sound like shite. If I do recall correctly, I do remember Musiq, upon the release of his second or thid album, saying something along the lines that he doesn't see the need to switch up his style; he's got a formula and he's sticking to it. Now, people can certainly change their minds - and have a right to, damnit - but that type of statement coming from a musician goes hand and hand with his new tune. But, I've gone over the allocated "Musiq discussion time" I've set aside each year so on to the next quickly fading R&B crooner.

chuckaducci said: Egads, you think Musiq's a "good songwriter?"...why? I've explained this before. There was a thread on Omarion's "Icebox" and on that thread I think I spoke on how well thought out Musiq's lyrics are. While most other lyricists focus on slick wording, his lyrics ring of sincerity. Peep the lyrics to Teach Me. That's real talk! Its reminiscent of Marvin Gaye. Its none of that slick "check out how many ways I can say I wanna fuck you" talk but its a sincere conveying of most men's inability to communicate in relationships mixed with their contrasting desire to do so but lacking the understanding of how to. Check "Love", where he uses the dichotomy of Love as being a woman and an emotion as he talks to it/her. Sometimes you have to look beyond the surface to appreciate the work.

This is going to be the 4th best song of his career in ringtone sales (at least).
It's going to hurt his "deep, and sensitive quasi-post neo-soul" fans, but the "thug-club 2-steppers" are going to love this one! [Edited 8/20/08 21:49pm]
