8 Mile vs. Purple Rain

I finally saw 8 Mile this weekend. It is a pretty good movie, definitely similar to Purple Rain, but I thought the acting was better, but the music and performances weren't even close to the level of Purple Rain. Am I getting old, or is it sad that you don't need to play an instrument or sing anymore to become the largest performer in the world?

The last battle is great, but I thought it dragged a little and it really needed Morris to spice it up a bit. lol

What did you guys think about it?

If I was in a bookstore...8 Mile is the book I would skip. I judged it by it's cover.

So I won't see it.

But to answer your question, NO it's not about your age. It's it what it is. Your observation is real.

Playing instruments isn't cool anymore. Only reaching for the Hip Hop uniform closet and reading the hand gestures manual.

I saw this coming way back and it sucks.

I could tell that there were similarities between the 2 movis just by the trailers alone.

I didn't see it, won't see it, and hope never to see it.

Eminem is just the latest reincarnation of white America's need for a caucasian "rapper" on the scene. Can't wait for his 15-minutes of fame to be up. Can't wait to see him in VH1's Behind The Music...crying next to Vanilla Ice.
