Atl Blog: Is Jermaine Out At Island Def Jam? http://www.sohh.com/2008/....html#more
Written By SOHH Gyant Could Jemaine Dupri’s time at Island Def Jam be officially over? According to my source who works for the company….it’s a wrap. After several failed projects, which includes Janet Jackson’s Discipline, Mariah Carey’s E=MC2 and Johnta Austin's permanently shelved project it looks like the powers that be have had enough and JD’s time as head of Island Records' urban division has come to an end. I am being told that JD’s termination papers were being drafted this afternoon. Though me and JD have gone back and fourth a few times I’m sadden to have to report on this. I truly hope this isn't true and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. To lose your restaurant and then your job in such a public matter is never a good thing. I wrestled with putting this out there, but I got a job to do. Let’s hope this is all one big joke that someone is playing on me. While I have no proof that this is factual in any way my gut is telling me to run with it. Talk to y’all lata, --SOHH Gyant Email:sohhgyant@gmail.com **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

When he left EMI, we were like HA!!!!! GOOD LUCK WITH THAT???? Dude. JD has NO idea how to run a label. I still don't understand why people still hire him when he has NO track record of successfully running a label. He's produced a few good albums over the years, but has released more BAD ONES. Janet needs to cut him loose if she wants her career back. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts
y'all gone keep messin' around wit me and turn me back to the old me......

I don't think he was running the label, he was just doing his So So Def artists/label and also had some other agreement with the urban department. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I’m not surprised. He just needs to stay producing. Everyone who has hit records doesn’t need to sit in ‘the office’. I hope we don’t hear about him being broke soon. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Yeah, he ran the urban department at Virgin too. I'm saying HE CAN'T. He's a HORRIBLE executive. He's not even that great of a producer. Just another example of people in the music business failing upwards. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

Has he even had a "hit" this year? He had some crap song with Nelly (another track about sneakers I think) but I don't know if that was a hit. Like ButterscotchPimp, I don't think he's that great of a producer either. He got overhyped off of the few good tracks he's had. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

JD's "head of Urban music" title was about as meaningful as when Prince was given a VP title at Warner Bros when he renewed after Diamonds and Pearls. Its meaningless, all the cats that think they have power or pull have none, its the shareholders and boardmembers that run the damn thing, JD was just another puppet. I wonder if Janet will follow him to a new label and continue to let him fuck up her career?

I hear ya! I never saw jermaine as nothing more than just a producer. He copies what is already out and makes hits from that. I still like him though because he gives us party records. I hope he can still find more production work. nipsy

They're still trying to make up for losing Rob Stevenson to Virgin. Stay tuned.

Yeah what a flop Let's just fire everyone It may not be a flop, but the big hit from the cd wasn't his song (Touch My Body). "Bye Bye" didn't do too well and neither is "I'll Be Loving You Long Time". If Mariah wants this album to do better, she needs to release either "Cruise Control" or "I'm That Chick". Those are true HITS. That other stuff isn't. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

He put out good party records in the late 90's, but those days are gone.
