Please share your experiences of cringing so much at how people your age or especially a little bit older seriously rub in liking akon and other shitty artists and finding it unbelievable that you're not into today's shit and like older stuff, and the idea that today copies from what's been done already is seriously new to them, especially if they are a few years older than you, and you'd think that they remember good music but seriously think today's is better....

Anyone else amused by people like that and feel like being a musical snob around them?

My father always schooled me on why jazz and blues concerts is entirely white..meaning it seems like all we know is hip-hop,R & B-old and new, Motown, and whatever is out now....we let are culture go.

I GOTTEN OFF SUBJECT A LITTLE BUT IT STEMS FROM MY UPBRINING AND WHY I CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO WHATEVER IS NOT THE NORM.

I have to give
my male best friend props
because he will expand his mind
(I turned him on to Rufus/Chaka
even the P-Funk stuff)
but then, for example, I let him
hear "The Jungle Line" by Joni M.
HATED IT...
so then I tried "Dreamland"
on the strength of Chaka being there
STILL HATED IT...

as far as my other 2 best friends...
one entertains the traditional
oldie/goodie stuff (MAZE, Isley Bros.)
and southern rap

the other entertains all the
popular stuff, "snap music",
"jig music" etc, ATLien rappers
she likes some old school, but not much

I pride myself on being a musical SNOB
hell I correct anyone who spells
Minnie Riperton's last name with 2 P's
and I'm usually good at turning folks
onto stuff they've never heard before
but it don't always work (i.e. "The Jungle Line")

born in 1978 and it's funny to see how music now is really going back to alot of 80's stlye stuff! but history always repeats it's self.

my best friend from 10 or 15 years ago absolutely adores contemporary pop music. and i can't, for the life of me, ever remember him being into such popular, poppy stuff when we were friends before. in the meantime, i've gotten into some much more alternative, hip music. he did mention to me on facebook last night that he wants to get into some other stuff.

i dunno, i think he's going through some sort of mid-life crisis at the age of 31, after his divorce.
