I've never heard the song Sounds Like Teen Spirit so I don't hve a clue about that line but House of Music is my all time favorite TTT album and I Don't Know What You Come to Do is my favorite single. | |

FWIW, I'd have to say that "House Party II (I Don't Know What You Come to Do)" is easily my least favorite 3T single. It's all good, though.

FWIW, I'd have to say that "House Party II (I Don't Know What You Come to Do)" is easily my least favorite 3T single. It's all good, though.
Love "Let's Get Down." Alex, you are right. I will be 60 in Nov. and my personal tastes are heavily weighted towards the funk, soul and dance side of the musical spectrum so keeping up with the various trends in rock music has not been my bag. I admit I'm a dilettant of sorts. I know more about Nirvana lore than I do about Nirvana music. For example: Nirvana was the most famous "grunge" band to come out of the Seattle area led by the late Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters (never heard a song by them either) was in the band along with the guy with the foreign sounding name on bass, Krist Noveselic. They wore a lot of plaid pendletons and had an album out called Bleach that diod not do too well. Smells Like Teen Spirit was their monster hit from the album Nevermind and the cover featured a picture of a baby swimming underwater. I will leave all the crap about his relationship with Courtney Love and the suicide out of the dicussion. I've never heard a song by them (that I know of). Now that you've pressed me I suppose I should go over to Youtube and educate myself to a pivotal tune in musical history whether just so I can say I know what the fuss is about. As for I Don't Know What You Come to Do- There are a couple of reasons why this is my favorite TTT single. I know it's far from being among the best of their songs but number one, it was my introduction to the existence of the band and number two it perfectly captured the feel of what it was about, a house party in the hood. It was a raucous and pleasantly chaotic jam session that had so many elements of a good funky sound, the slap chord and chicken scratch guitar, and a sax voice that in my ear equals the Maceo Parker sound. So I appreciated it as a perfect expression of the mood it meant to capture and it made me want to know who the hell are these Tony guys who know how to combine all these elements of funk? I don't think Nirvana is going to be your thing, but I really appreciate you saying you'd go to YouTube just to learn!  As a teacher, it warms my heart to read that.

Turns out I recognized having heard it many times but I never knew who or whatit was and if it came on the radio or my kid tried to play it I'd probably just say, "Get rid of that awful sounding shit, will ya?" Oh well. I also went and read the lyrics which make absolutely no sense to me at all but on a feeling level I guess it captures teenage angst very well, hence the name, right? It's one of those songs where the title appears nowhere in the song. Didn't we have a thread here not too long ago that was on that subject- song titles that didn't appear in the lyrics?
