FANTASTIC (Wham!s first album) Appreciation-Thread

Hey,

I think it may be unknown among many, especially in the USA. But how do you like that album?
As always, GM wrote most of the songs. There are three that were written at the age of 17 (with Andrew Ridgeley), Club Tropicana, Wham Rap! and Come On.

I think GMs songwriting was clearly there (and he was between 17 and 19 when he wrote those songs), but somehow they're not as original as later songs.

They have that Kool And The Gang 3-chord style. And many songs have even the same Chord-pattern.

The newest songs on the album are Ray Of Light (originally called Bassline) and Bad Boys.

1983 he also wrote "Blue (Armed With Love)" which is fantastic!! One of his best ballads!!

And he wrote "Golden Soul". I don't know for whom but it was later released on the Boogie Box High album!

"Club Tropicana" and "Nothing Looks the Same in the Light" are the best things on the album. The rest of it pales in comparison to the group's later material.
