It should be a tribute to James Brown since The Grammy's didn't do him justice.

Imagine ... in the spirit of James, an All-Star line up of funky people like say...

George Clinton, Bootsy, Maceo, the entire P-Funk Mob - playing Mother Popcorn

The Time playing Sex Machine

Raphael Saadiq playing Say it Loud

Common as emcee

The S1W's stepping

Chuck D. in there somewhere.
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

That would be the natural choice considerating the last couple of artists that have done it. But, the word is that he hasn't done it is because sponsors are afraid he'll go on some political rant in the middle of his set like he does at his concerts.

I'm not a big Bruce fan, but I think he would be a great choice. I also thought about Bon Jovi or Mariah. Those 2 are big enough and have a crossover appeal. Beyonce would only do it if she has an album coming out...then she would try to do a DC reunion....so I don't want 2 c her.

I don't know. If not, get The Barkays. I know they are still around. But whoever they get, they need to get something they never have...some funk. And not some damn crossover funk either. And as far as the non-funk fans not knowing who they are, who cares? Those drunk ass football fans wouldn't give a damn if dogs jumped through hoops of fire during halftime. They just came there to watch football and get drunk. lol

You'll never get funk at the superbowl. Hell, you may not ever see another black act doing the half time show ever again. If you think about it, there are only a hand full of "crossover" black acts left. Mariah or Beyonce would be the closest thing we might can get.

If you think about it, they wouldn't let a hip-hop artist do the half-time show (unless it's Will Smith). They wouldn't let an r&b singer do it, so we don't have many options left.

I just thought....it may be cool to see Donna Summer do it. It would be cool to see several dancers grooving to "Last Dance" and "Stamp Your Feet".

Donna Summer would be an excellent choice but you have to realize that it is a sporting event. Donna Summer was a disco act and disco has gotten the "gay" label over the years. And as far as homophobia goes, besides rednecks, the most homophobic people I've encountered in my lifefime are shit hoppers and dumb sports jocks. Hell, if it were up to me, I'd put The Village People on the stage in T Shirts that say "fuck you" but the Super Bowl wouldn't go for that. lol

Actually, the perfect choice would be a group like Kool and the Gang. Kool and the Gang hasn't been all over the television in the last 15 years like Parliament/Funkadelic has so they would be a group that people haven't seen in a while. Kool and the Gang also had that mass appeal so they could do a medley of their funk hits such as "Hollywood Swinging", "Jungle Boogie", etc., then bring on in some of their crossover hits such as "Fresh", "Ladies Night", and for their finale, they could end it with their smash hit "Celebration". The only problem is, and you know this would happen, they would end up having to share the stage and perform with one of those acts that came out either in the 1990s or the 2000s which would absolutely ruin the whole performance.

They've already been that route. Just look back at some of the so-called music acts they've had in the past. lol

Actually, I don't know why they would get any musical act to perform at halftime. Just do like the rest of the football games. Let a marching band perform. Hell, I don't even like football but I love some of those marching bands and those girls that dance in front of the band (in my area they are called The Jaycettes). Hell, they really get down. Especially those black colleges.

It's much 2 do about nothing. It's a FOOTBALL game and it's only 15 minutes.

Madonna, Mariah, Beyonce, and Michael all have or will have an album out by Superbowl time.

TIna Turner is about to tour. She'd be an ideal choice. She's big and got a big young and old following. ANd rappers have done it. Nelly was on there once and then for the infamous 2004 Bowl with Janet.

If not them who do we have left? Of the young and hot Brittney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguleria, Pink, and Rhianna.

We could go withthe old Piano players. Ray CHarles is gone but Elton John and Stevie WOnder is left, And there's the new prodigy on Piano Alicia Keys.

Someone who I'm sad will never do a Superbowl is James Brown. Huge artist with a large old following. So the next best would be Michael Jackson. But he has done it so I have to go with the closest the to James and Michael in the 21st century Usher..
