MJ is more popular but GM could sing MJ under a table. GM has written some beautiful, complex songs over the years as well.

today he probally can , but do you think that was the case pre 82?

Considering GM was a novice singer and MJ an accomplished singer that's really not very fair.

Singing talent? I'd say they're on par with each other.

Overall talent? I'd give that one to Michael.

Exactly, lol. And besides Michael was already a LEGEND by the time George debuted with WHAM!. lol

this argument is ridiculous.. for one MJ has released tons more music than GM, MJ has been around since the 60s .. and please go on Youtube and watch some of his live performances with the Jacksons... please also watch his performances during the Bad Tour and also things like the Clinton Inauguration. The Sammy Davis Jnr performance was amazing. Please also listen to him singing There's more to life than this and his live moments during Earth Song..

MJ can sing just as well as GM (who seems to stick to the same formula on all of his songs). I believe GM has a very nice voice, its soft and rich and he can hit the right notes, but he doesnt have the breadth that MJ has.

I think the popularity speaks for itself. MJ is a legend.

Also can people stop making comments like mj hasnt done anything since 2002 or whatever.. he's already had a 35 year career.

mj may be a legend, but they are both on the same level in terms of talent and charisma and contribution to music

this reminds me of morons who thought bob marley was not a legend and mj deserves it more, and losers who thought thriller should be number one over songs in the key of life on that recent list, it's silly to say one is better than the other when mj plus the other artist contributed heavily to music in different ways.

Yes, that's why I said "It's all relative". It really comes down to taste. I really like GM also. I just prefer MJ. cool
Then why would you say you are shocked people think Gm can outsing MJ? lol

Well, that doesn't mean some opinions don't shock me! lol

GM can outsing MJ because I've never heard Mj singing like GM did on Somebody To Love or his bautiful live-intros of Careless Whisper.
GM has that fantastic vibrato in his voice that MJ never could come up. Does he ever sing that way?
Have you noticed MJ sings staccato or soft ballads? And when there are notes he could sing with some vibrato he prefers to scream

btw, GM is the only singer i know who can't seem to scream. his voice never gets scratchy,

OK, well I've never heard GM's voice sound as beautiful as MJ singing songs like Human Nature, Time Waits For No One, Liberian Girl, or Butterflies. And do I even need to mention the old Motown songs from when MJ was a kid? lol

And U mention "Vibrato". Are U serious?! MJ has Amazing Vibrato vocal abitlities. Try listening to "You Are Not Alone", for example. It's actually one of his Major Vocal Strengths. biggrin

Like I said before, It really comes down to taste. In my opinion GM is great. But, I just don't dig his vocals like I do MJ.

I think mj's voice is unique and inspiring for that kind of phrasing, and most pop artists try to do the same thing. Wasn't he listed as the 3rd most influential vocalist or something?

I agree that george has way more depth at times though, and sometimes I hear similarities between the two vocally.

It's important to note. Your post pretty much goes back in time for MJ but were not allowed to point to the present? Sure MJ is a legend...that's not the question.

You say GM sticks to the same formula. You could say the same for MJ, who seems to be chasing Thriller since it came out.

LOved MJ become he became an alien. GM's material stands up much better than Mj's. Most of Mike's material sounds very dated.

Aside from very few tracks you are correct in that. He tries to sound too "now" and whenever anyone does that, makes music that sounds dated.

Billie Jean and his slow tracks are about the only ones that don't sound dated.

Michael or George??? Even though George is #2, Michael is still that dude.

George's stuff from 1996 has been so damn slow save for Amazing, Fastlove, and a couple others. Michael's stuff isn't really dated, but most of Wham's stuff is dated, save for Careless Whisper, If You Were There, Blue, and I'm Your Man

Here is the true conclusion,

Slow but beautiful! Wham's stuff is a bit dated but not GM's IMO. His ballads are borderline standards that hold up well. When George does do uptempo it's usually on point. Other than OTW, MJ's uptempo sounds dated especially the tracks that were with the hot producers of the moment.

Michael Jackson is a genius of singer, dancer and songwriter/composer. George Michael has a brilliant singing voice, but he's an overrated performer and his music is just pedestrian disco music.

It's an insult to music to compare a much lesser talent like George Michael to a musical genius like Michael Jackson.
