Andy's Vinyl Dig on 8/9/08

After hearing about SoulAlive's vinyl dig for the past two or three weeks, I took me a long ass ride to the country and went on a dig this past Saturday. Here's what I came back with.....

Rick James – She Blew My Mind (69 Times) (Promo/12 Inch)
Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers – Bustin’ Loose
Sylvester – Step II
The Commodores – Midnight Magic
The Commodores – Hereos
GQ – Disco Nights
GQ – Two

As my grandmother used to say, there was some ass shakin' when I made it back home.

Those two GQ albums are EXCELLENT! I recently found the second album....getting ready to record both albums on an 80-minute CD-R lol

Of course,I have all of the Commodores albums too. That Rick James 12" sounds interesting!

I didn't go on a vinyl dig this past weekend but I just bought several abums from Ebay:

***the two albums by Bell and James (the guys who gave us the 1979 jam "Livin It Up (Friday Night)"....I wanna hear what their other songs sound like.

***the Alton McClain and Destiny album with
"It Must Be Love".

***the Gary's Gang album from 1979.

I had a GQ "Best Of" CD already. After seeing GQ on your last dig, I decided to pick those up also.

Of course,I have all of the Commodores albums too.

These two make five that I have on vinyl and three that I have on CD...all since last September. I grew up having a few of their 45s but only recently have been checking out their albums. Every one I have bought so far has been great.

That Rick James 12" sounds interesting!

I remember hearing it on the radio back in 1982 but never could find it in the record stores back then. The one I bought last Saturday has a plain white Motown label and says "Promotional Only/Not for Resale".

It reminds me of the "Super Freak" 12 Inch. It starts off like the album version then it has a funky breakdown that lasts until the end. The 12 Inch version is about 6 and a half minutes.

I'm always afraid to get an album by a one hit wonder for fear that there won't be any more good tracks on the album except for their hit. I took a chance with Anita Ward and the whole damn album was nothing but ballads except for "Ring My Bell".

I did take a chance with Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers last weekend and was pleased with several tracks on the album.

Well, I probably would check out Bell and James' album also if I could find it. Actually, it's female solo artists' albums that I'm scared to take a chance with. Those heffers will have an album full of ballads damn near every time. lol

A friend of mine made me a CD-R of the long version of that song which is probably the album version. You're gonna love it.

***the Gary's Gang album from 1979.

I saw that one a few months ago but also saw the 12 Inch of "Keep On Dancin'" so I bought it instead.

I went out to buy some stuff yesterday. Well, actually I was just going to pick up an album by the Independents I knew was still sitting in the crates at one of my usual joints. Well, I ended up finding a couple of gems while I was at it, namely 'The Gap Band' by the Gap Band (released on Tattoo) and a CD copy of the Barrino Brothers' 'I Shall Not Be Moved: The Invictus Sessions'.
I've never in my life seen that particular Gap Band album anywhere. Not on Ebay. Not on GEMM. Not in any record store I've visited. I remember funkpill mentioning he once saw the album on sale somewhere, for 100$. I paid 11$ for it lol
The asking price for the Barrino Brothers CD is somewhere around 95$ on Amazon. I paid 16$ for it wink
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

what songs are on that Gap Band album?

The track list and a review of the album, http://allmusic.com/cg/am...foxqwgld0e

Didn't have time to spin the album yesterday, so I don't know what the album actually sounds like lol
I'll probably spin it today after work. I'll let you know what I think smile
