Disco-pastiche-turned-Classic of the day: Blondie / Heart of Glass (1979)

Blondie / Heart of Glass (1979)
Blondie / Heart of Glass (1979)

[ Once I had a love and it was a gas . soon turned out had a heart of glass . seemed like the real thing, only to find . mucho mistrust, love's gone behind . once I had a love and it was divine . soon found out I was losing my mind . it seemed like the real thing but I was so blind . mucho mistrust, love's gone behind . In between . what I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine . love is so confusing there's no peace of mind . if I fear I'm losing you it's just no good . you teasing like you do . Lost inside . adorable illusion and I cannot hide . I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside . we could've made it cruising, yeah

Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light.

Purplecam, we seem to love the same music! I love this too, Debbie Harry was my idol when I was really young, I thought she was amazing. I love 'Atomic' too, it's kind of my 'theme' song! Blondie were so, so cool....cool

highfive Great minds think alike!!!
Debbie Harry was cool. She was rough and sexy and it wasn't something phony, it was real and it came across in the music too. Blondie kicks ass.

It isn't. lol

Many people regard it as a classic disco song, but in reality, "Heart of Glass" was not a big hit in American clubs nationally. It didn't even break the top 50 of Billboard's dance/disco chart when it was released.

Now "Rapture" on the other hand, was BIG in clubs. nod

I absolutely love Heart of Glass. This is the jam that began my love affair with Blondie. I prefer the "disco" version (5:50 - actually the version that was originally on the Parallel Lines album) to this single remix (same one that was on the Best of Blondie) - that one was really messed up. How could they remix a song and leave out the main hook that drew you in the first place? eek Terrible! Even the edit of the album version is better than this.

Sticklers are we exclaim (This is why I keep coming back M:N-P)

Ok, ok, so it isn't full-fledged disco. More like disco-pastiche turned disco-classic. In the same way Rod Stewart's "D'yTIS?" or Rolling Stones' "Miss You" are now regarded.

Given the backlash disco had shortly after this was released, this song could have ruined Blondie. I'm relieved it didn't.

Suprisingly, I hear "Heart of Glass" at more nightclubs than I do "Rapture."

Ok, org, I changed the title. Little longwinded, but accurate! thumbs up!

Also, don't kill me for parenthesizing 1979 as the year. I'm going off of the '79 single release, not the '78 album version. geek

I think "Heart of Glass" has aged better than "Rapture".
