Sonny's cool man. Who Does She Hope To Be? is one of my favorites by him.

I loved Ask The Ages when it came out, and really dug his playing on Pharoah Sanders' "Thembi". As an improviser he was fearless, which meant not everything worked because when he went far out, he went ALL THE WAY out.

Kool Sharrock clip! I'm guessing that's Melvin Gibbs on tha Bass...

Sonny was definitely one of the true originals! Doin his thing back in the 60's with Miles, Pharoah Sanders, Herbie Mann---shit, he was one of the artists Hendrix was following around with a tape recorder!

I was blown away when I heard his album "Guitar" in '86, and then "Ask The Ages" in '91. One thing I always liked about his playing was that no matter how far "Out" he got, there was always a very melodic center. One of my first thoughts when I heard his music was that even when he was in free mode he and Carlos Santana could converse on their guitars and it would all fit--and then I found out that Santana regularly mentions Sharrock as one of his influences---and I'm sure the Coltrane influence is running through all of it, too...
I think people were just beginning to catch onto Sharrock's genius when he died in '94...

Funny thing is, that "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" theme might be the last stuff he ever recorded....
