It wouldn't be right to compile an 8/08/08 playlist without...

Afrika Bambaataa & the Soul Sonic Force

"Planet Rock (Instrumental)"

mad An annoying-ass remix that obscures the TR-808 pattern...

...Yah Mo Be There.

Unfortunately I couldn't locate the original studio version.
You can still occasionally hear the 808 clap on the and-of-2. disbelief

I wish I hadn't. disbelief The original is one of the best songs R. Kelly gave away, but that... isn't.

Of course, you can't talk about the TR-808 without this song (the only version I could find on YouTube):

I want my own 808, then I want somebody to teach me to use it so I can have a beat for my day - you know, when I'm getting ready, when I'm vacuuming, when I'm sleeping, etc.

Here you go...

...You can have this one.

I used to have one but I made a trade with The Forat Brothers...

...for a Linn Drum back in the 80s.

I was in the same industrial complex with Bruce & Ben when they worked at Linn.
360 Systems was in the same complex...

...Remember the MidiBass?

When Linn when out of business they (along with their Dad) bought all the remaining inventory and started Forat Electronics.
Ben asked if he could borrow my TR-808 to use as a template for one of their first samplers.
They kept it so long we eventually made a deal for a Linn Drum. lol

At the time I was trying to make Rock demos with the 808...disbelief
Wasn't happening.

They're good people.
