if i did that, it would be wrong. sad

(especially the silk/shai comparison)

lol hmph! The only thing Silk has over Shai is more consistency. For my money, "Lose Control" (the song) is the only thing Silk ever did that matches up with Shai's best ("If I Ever Fall in Love," "Yours," "Together Forever," "Baby I'm Yours"). I do love "Happy Days" as well -- it's funny how my favorite 2 songs on their debut are the only 2 that don't have "me" or "you" in the title. I do like that album, though. As overrated as "Freak Me" was in its heyday, it's still a good song.

Vocally, member for member, Shai had better singers than all of the others. No weak links in that foursome...

Not only consistency, but hits, more quality music and better albums is what Silk had over Shai, The harmony could go either way (id choose Silk over Shai anyways since Silks was more soulful) but LIL G and JON JON would outsing anybody in Shai. I honestly thought Shai was a one album wonder, I wasn't feeling the remix album and Blackface was kinda garbage to me. Freak Me was kinda overrated tho back in the day, I'll give you that, but its still the sh*t!

If I Ever Fall In Love (Song) is better than Freak Me but Silks debut album is better than Shai's. Shai had it going until the uptempo joints (which they sucked at) and rapping started to appear halfway through the album.

Lose Control (song) is not the only thing that matches up to Shai's best. It may not be better than "If I Ever", or "Comforter" but its better than "together forever", and "baby im yours".

Have you heard other Silk album cuts like "Dont Cry For Me", or "Please Dont Go"? They IMO are better. And don't forget album anthems like "meeting in my bedroom" or "Back In My Arms"

You're right, Silk had a couple more hits. As far as vocals go, I'll take Darnell over Lil G and Jon Jon every time. That voice is pure and beautiful. I also prefer Garfield. He's by far the best bass singer out of these groups. I think the Silk leads can be a little whiny at times. Regardless, my point was that Shai had better singers than the others as a group. They were a lot like En Vogue in that every member got to sing lead and they could all more than hold their own. This was also evident when they sang live. All of the other groups being discussed had one or two leads. And as for harmonies, I'm shocked you think Silk could hang with Shai. Forget "If I Ever Fall in Love" -- listen to the last tracks on their first two (studio) albums: "Lord I've Come" and "If I Gave." The harmonies on those two blow Silk out of the water.

I can't believe you weren't feeling the remix album. It's the one album they made without any lackluster tracks. The live version of "If I Ever Fall in Love" is on fire! The new songs "Show Me" and particularly "Come Home to My Love" are great, "Yours" is yet another a cappella showcase for their outstanding vocals, and the remixes are all good (with "Sexual (Tonight Is the Night)" and "Changes" really taking the songs to a new level). Blackface is definitely hit or miss, but the hits are worth it.

If I Ever Fall In Love (Song) is better than Freak Me but Silks debut album is better than Shai's. Shai had it going until the uptempo joints (which they sucked at) and rapping started to appear halfway through the album.

lol Ah, you mean "Flava." Yeah, it took me a while to warm up to that one (and it's still the weakest track). However, I love "Don't Wanna Play" and "Baby I'm Yours." "Waiting for That Day" is fine. I like "Changes," but the remix is fantastic (one of my favorites). I like all of the uptempo songs on Silk's album, but I don't think any of them stand out as much as "Baby I'm Yours" and "Don't Wanna Play." I'd call that side a push, but I think Shai wins the battle of debut albums with their slow songs.

Lose Control (song) is not the only thing that matches up to Shai's best. It may not be better than "If I Ever", or "Comforter" but its better than "together forever", and "baby im yours".

I like "Meeting in My Bedroom" solely for the ridiculous chorus. "Please Don't Go" and "Back in My Arms" are standard, boring late '90s R&B IMO. I hate "Don't Cry for Me." The vocals are awful... I have nothing good to say about that song (and that album was a huge disappointment for me).
