Boyz II Men or Jodeci?

I think in the end I will have to go with Jodeci. Probably for the same reason I go for Prince instead of Michael. Jodeci was a little edgier and soulful to me. Boyz II Men was to square and pop-ish for my liking. Don't get me wrong, both groups had their corny gimmicks but I will go for combat boots before plaid shorts any day. Let the battle begin.

Jodeci's first album was great but overall for me, I have to go with Boyz II Men. I can't understand why Boyz II Men aren't still popular. Jodeci, egos and partying seemed to ruin them.

That's easy. Jodeci hands down. Back in those days, K-Ci could blow Wanya out the water any day...don't know about now though. K has been hitting the cigarettes and liqour bottles too much. Don't quite know how strong his voice is now.

Boyz II Men. But only for the song "Motown Philly". The rest of their songs are equally as dull as Jodeci.

Actually, I'd rather listen to Barry Manillow. At least he had "Copacabana" and the theme from "American Bandstand" which could pep things up at least a little bit. lol

Boyz II Men, without question. Better Harmonies as well as material.

Basically.

Musically, BIIM were more talented than Jodeci, sans Devante.

Vocally, Jodeci always sucked live. They were some of the first "studio" singers as well as studio "gangstas" of the 90s.

Image, both groups were manufactured.

Oh I highly disagree with u. Obviously u haven't seen "MTV Uptown Unplugged". Jodeci sounded better live than they ever did in the studio. Boys II Men were always mediocre live, there was just Wanya and those three other guys on stage.

And how can some of u say that Jodeci had no talent? U have DeVante who wrote & produced their songs and he also played the paino and keyboards. Dalvin played drums, K-CI & Jo-Jo also wrote songs. Are some of u on crack or something? Remember, ya'lls girl Shitney Whitney said it best "crack is cheap". lol

Can you read? lol I said Devante was more talented musically than BIIM. Thats what "sans" means. And I'm well aware of the musical contributions of the other members of Jodeci. The Dalvin written and produced "S'more" is my favorite cut by them. But collectively, BIM were always better songwriters and arrangers.

And Uptown "Unplugged" is hot. I still bump that. But that was one moment in time. And they had people helping on backgorund vocals. wink Let's hear Jodeci ever do "It's So Hard" or "Silent Night" or "Still Of The Night" a capella. THEY CAN'T!!

Good, you can count. Now, my response was you saying they were just studio singers when K-CI and JoJo were the lead vox and they could blow live.

True about K-ci and JoJo. I agree. But Jodeci is a quartet, a vocal group. lol During most (not all) live performances you can't even hear Dalvin or Devante. When you could they rarely blended or sounded good.

I always dug Jodeci more. Devante was an amzing Producer who could have been better had not Drugs taken over.

But, Boyz II Men had some incredible ballads back in the day.

I really miss those days of GOOD R&B music. mad

Every male vocal group of the 90s patterend themselves after these 2. I remember magazines having those "Which is your favorite group" articles running. lol

Wow. Once again - K-CI & JoJo are the front men. They are the lead vocalists. THEY sound good live. They broke off and became a duo. They sould good live as a duo. I'm pretty sure if they both decided to go solo, they'd then ALSO would sound good solo. eek

They were great as a duo. music I still love the first K-ci and JoJo album. The other day I waz telling a co-worker that I wish K-ci would go back to his roots and make a gospel album. With the right songs and producers it would be worshipt

OK, if I have to choose between these two...

Honestly, it's probably a tie. Neither one managed to produce a great album all the way through IMO. They were comparable in a lot of ways:

a lot of fantastic singles (like "End of the Road," "I'll Make Love to You," "Forever My Lady," and "Cry for You" to name a few)
great album cuts (like "This Is My Heart" and "U&I")
singles that should've been bigger ("Please Don't Go" and "I'm Still Waiting")
singles that flopped almost completely ("I Remember" and "Gotta Love")
fantastic remixes ("Uhh Ahh" and "Come & Talk to Me"), memorable backing vocals ("Iesha," "Treat Them Like They Want to Be Treated")
memorable remakes ("It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" and "Lately")
members who once dated (and sang with) R&B stars (Wanya & Brandy on "Brokenhearted," K-Ci & Mary J. Blige on "I Don't Want to Do Anything Else")
members who went solo solely for a soundtrack single (Shawn's "Visions of a Sunset" from Mr. Holland's Opus, K-Ci's cover of "If You Think You're Lonely Now" from Jason's Lyric)

The main difference is that, while Boyz II Men have kept going with their careers (in relative obscurity), Jodeci ended near their peak and spun off a number of successes: K-Ci & JoJo, Timbaland, and Missy (among others).

If push came to shove, I'd probably give it to the Boyz right now, but that could change tomorrow.

Aka the Jodeci boots. lol

I'd go with Jodeci for reasons stated throughout this thread, their overall rawness being the key factor.

Listen hooker I can read just fine. Its just that your ass is proclaiming your opinion like u a liable musical critic for male groups where in you aint. Have u looked in the mirror? Can u see out your eyes and realize that you don't even know what the fuck u talkin about? That's what I thought...just another nobody talkin loud and sayin nothing.

Sitting on here battling everybody who gives just a litte bit of credit to Jodeci. Get a life.
