David Spinozza - "Superstar" (1978)

...

A Blast from the Past! This Leon Russell tune(made famous by The Carpenters)was the opening cut from guitarist David Spinozza's 1978 solo album. The song(and the album) features some of the Who's Who of the New York session scene at the time:

Luther Vandross, David Lasley, Diva Gray - Background vocals
Leon Pendarvis - Piano, Keys
Anthony Jackson - Bass
Mike Mainieri - Synthesizer
Rick Marotta - Drums
David Spinozza - Guitar

Of course, Luther would go on to cut his own version later....

Good one Pali!!!! I bought this record a little over two years ago and I really n-joyed it. The "Ballerina" song - I forgot the actual title but it was the one I would play the most.

biggrin You're right-- that's the title, I love that piece, too! Radio stations around my way used to also play the tracks, "Doesn't She Know By Now" and "On My Way to The Liquor Store"

Nice one. I have to pop in any thread about this song (since it's my favorite pop tune). I've heard so many takes on this song, and this one stands out because the arrangement is so different. It's not my favorite take on it, but I really do like how different it is.

Just a slight correction - Leon wrote it with Bonnie Bramlett. I always have to give it up for her. biggrin

A forgotten guitarist.
Seeing Mike Mainieri on this track makes me want to pull out some Steps Ahead.
