Cover records?

How come cover records went out of style. Back in the day, an artist might cover a records only a few months after it was released. Why did the trend stop?

Good question. The last artists I've notice to do a cover were No Doubt cover The The's It's My Life.

Back in the day, those who made cover records, had the chops to cover them decently. Now, with all of the T Pain's and all of the other "Crackerjack" prize type singers there is a lot more pressure on them to do it right. Nobody want to take that chance.

Like the time Ginuwine & Timbaland did that Prince cover (When Doves Cry). It's a good example of what can go wrong with doing remakes.
