Good tune.
That whole album is killer... ...Minute By Minute Some time in the 80s I was involved in a jam session with keyboardist Lester Abrams (co-wrote Minute by Minute & Open Your Eyes on the album) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. The only Doobies CD I own is Greatest Hits from 2001. As for What a Fool Believes, that's a classic! Very catchy and fun. Check me out and add me on:

I can see the appeal, but even when I hear it now I feel nauseous. It was way overplayed on the radio (probably still is).

Oh yes, gotta love Michael McDonald. Everytime I hear this song I have to sing along (and act like I know the words to it other than the chorus, ) I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Love Micheal M.'s voice but I can't understand one word. He came from somewhere back in her long ago The sentimental fool dont see Tryin hard to recreate What had yet to be created once in her life She musters a smile For his nostalgic tale Never coming near what he wanted to say Only to realize It never really was She had a place in his life He never made her think twice As he rises to her apology Anybody else would surely know Hes watching her go But what a fool believes he sees No wise man has the power to reason away What seems to be Is always better than nothing And nothing at all keeps sending him... Somewhere back in her long ago Where he can still believe theres a place in her life Someday, somewhere, she will return She had a place in his life He never made her think twice As he rises to her apology Anybody else would surely know Hes watching her go But what a fool believes he sees No wise man has the power to reason away What seems to be Is always better than nothing Theres nothing at all But what a fool believes he sees... ---- Hope that helps.

I recently found out that it was written with Kenny Loggins. What happened to those guys? Why does age have to kill a person's songwriting skills? My Legacy

The song makes sense when you read the lyrics too. I also couldn't quite understand because Michael always sounded like he was mumbling on those Doobie records.

This is probably shit hop discussion fodder for days but I must share.
MF Doom did one of hip hop's biggest loop jacks ever with this song. The obvious clicking restarting loop cracks me up. On small speakers, you probably wouldn't notice the 808 kicks he added. For DJing purposes, it works as a nice edit before going into the source song. I'm pretty sure MF Doom made it just so he could blend acapellas of other rap songs on top of the Doobie Brothers.

That whole album is killer... ...Minute By Minute Love, love, love that album, but "What a Fool Believes" will always be the standout to me. If I were ever crazy enough to rank, say, my 100 favorite songs of all time, it would definitely make the list. Never get tired of that one.
