Yeah, you're about 3 years late "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Reminds me of Jay Z and Beyonce.
A stunning woman with a man who looks like the back end of a bus. Still, whatever helps the career...

It IS empowering. There's way too many so-called "independent women" songs resonating throughout the R&B community. There's a huge imbalance. Its about time a woman actually made a song about being happy and confident in her relationship with her man instead of all of this "I don't need anyone at all" crap that so many sistas are preaching musically. The black community is almost in crisis when it comes to male/female relationships and a little positive reinforcement from singers is good to hear every now and then. She didn't display weakness by saying she KNOWS her man ain't going anywhere because she's got that "good, good", which turns out to me more than just the physical. Not every woman is pissed off and mad at all brothas. She's handled it well in this song. Its nice to see some positivity for a change instead of objectification, materialism and anger in music. [Edited 8/3/08 8:16am] For once, I can agree with your statement. You are right, not every woman is preaching the "I can do bad by damn self" statement. Though now days you have more independent women than single, secure men in the world. But it is nice to have a song out there talking about how a woman wants to honor her the good man in her life and happy she is with him. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

You're young. When you get a little older, you may see things differently. You may want a "war of the sexes" now but eventually that shit gets old. Independence is great when it comes to helping establish identity of self but the more you understand and appreciate your connection with others, the less appealing being a lone ranger becomes when weighed against being a part of something (i.e., a relationship, family, etc.) Holla back when you hit 30. Lets see if you feel the same way. Mary J grew up and out of that mentality and Ashanti obviously has too (at least to a certain extent). Men and women aren't made to war with each other but rather to co-exist. You can fight nature but eventually it will catch up with you. And I agree with you, that "pin-up girl" look really worked for her. Ashanti is way hotter to me now than she was when she started. She's grown into her womanhood quite nicely and as I have said many times on here before, she's one of the very few pop R&B artists that has actually IMPROVED as a vocalist to a noticeable extent. She found her voice. Too bad she didn't have "it" BEFORE everybody gave her all those fake accolades a few years back. Maybe she can start trying to live up to some of her hype.

Excuse me, but what the fuck? Because I don't see "empowering" in Ashanti washing the floor as a semi naked 50's housewife talking about her "good good" - I'm too YOUNG to understand? I sure hope I DON'T see things differently when I'm older! ![]() The last thing I'd ever want to call empowering is a video like this. You may want a "war of the sexes" now but eventually that shit gets old. How is this a war of the sexes? This is my personal opinion on women who constantly degrade themselves to seem "cute". Independence is great when it comes to helping establish identity of self but the more you understand and appreciate your connection with others, the less appealing being a lone ranger becomes when weighed against being a part of something (i.e., a relationship, family, etc.) Holla back when you hit 30. I really fail to see where I said ANYTHING along those lines. I think if Ashanti wanted real respect from real women, she'd put her clothes on, SING, write and show her talent. Not keep wooing the boys with stripper outfits. I suppose you think the Pussycat Dolls are empowering too? ![]() Men and women aren't made to war with each other but rather to co-exist.
Shit, really?!?! ![]() I believe I've already said my problem is with the WOMAN in this video. Ashanti is way hotter to me now than she was when she started.
See I fucking hate that statement. She was a decent role model back in the day and of course, everyone found her boring. Now she's a cocktease and people are congratulating her on...regressing. Maybe she can start trying to live up to some of her hype.
Well, why don't you keep encouraging her to take her clothes off and we'll see what happens. ![]()
