Ryan Adams - Suicide Handbook

anyone heard this?

I think it might fall under my top 3 favorite albums by him.. unbelievably good!

Recorded at Javelina Studios in Nashville, Tennessee sometime in early 2001 (possibly January) soon before Adams' album Gold was recorded.

Yeah, altough i consider it more of a sprawling collection of demos than an album proper. Certainly some of his best work is featured on here - although Gold is still a really special album to me (despite many dismissing it because of its commercial gleen) so im glad he didnt put this one out. Its nicer to have as a collector and a fan as an unoffical release.

That said - i always felt Demolitian was a let down, and could have collected some of the amazing songs from these various sessions in a far better fashion. Lost Highway chickened out on that one.

I'm having 129 Ryan Adams song on my iPod on shuffle tonight, using my Bose Sounddock, doing all sorts of shit meanwhile. Suicide Handbook is among them as well. I'm a big fan of Adams, have seen him many times live. The problem (?) though with Adams is that he has yet has to deliver a memorable album.....an album that i stellar from the first to last! The man is so proliferate, he almost releases everything on record it seems! I have given up on listening to records, I always listen to him in shuffle! Fact is that Ryan Adams is one of the best singer-songwriters of his generation, I always enjoy his stuff and get never fed up!

It was called Demolition because it was a collection of demo's.....originally the tracks were never meant to be on the same record! Some stellar tracks on there though.....i.e. Dear Chicago and Cry On Demand.

Ryan is clearly the artist of the decade, no one can match his output and his quality, regardless of whether he is in the "mainstream", had it been about music still then he would be. The best stuff Ryan has is still to be released, he has about 4 more albums ready to go and also a box set of music not released coming. The sad thing is that John Mayer is mentioned in the same breath as Ryan....i mean, John has telent, but he will never even be in the same room with Ryan.

Well im aware of that - I just meant that the unreleased albums / sessions they were culled from had a lot of great material that deserved to be released. The "24 Hours" album stands alone as a great record in my opinion. Lost Highway didnt have the balls to release everything he wanted to. I still think Demolition is a great listen, but when you know what could have been.

I agree, Cry on Demand is stunning - listened to it last night - just stops you in your tracks. I dont agree that he doesnt have any solid albums. Heartbreaker is a solid if not very commercial album - whereas Gold is solid yet overly commercial. Both are as good albums as youll see released nowadays. Heartbreaker in particular affected a lot of people.
