MJ and Gary, Ind???

Do you think that Mike should have done something to help keep Gary from becoming a Ghost town? Sort of like how Prince did for his hometown?

Sidenote: This is not a Prince Vs. MJ thread.

Your thoughts.

He was too busy to wonder about Gary. When he visited, it was only for family purposes and that was brief. Then when he returned to Gary, in 2003, for the key to the city, it was already in the state it's in now.

I rode through Gary on my roadtrip this summer, and uh yea... it wasn't as bad as I expected, but it's not one person's responsibility to save a whole city neutral
If you will, so will I

I said nothing about him saving the town. What i said was maybe if he had helped maybe it would be better. Nothing wrong with giving back to your community.

The politicians/civic leaders would have just pocketed the funds. At the end of the day, it's about who's running the city, if they're foul, the city and/or area suffers. Look at the northside of Minneapolis

What did Minneapolis ever do for Prince? Didn't stop him from giving a damn about his hometown.

What is going on in Gary that needs "saving"? I've never been there.

It just sounds fuckin' rural to me.

It's an industrial neighborhood outside of Chicago. It's actually home of the steel mills.

Michael Jackson left Gary, Indiana when he was 10yrs old and moved to California when the Jackson 5 were signed to Motown. He's lived almost all of his life, from child to adult in California so I would presume that's where his heart is.

What Gary, Indiana did give Michael and his brothers was there first recording contract around 1966-67 when they were signed to Steeltown Records which gave the Jackson 5 some minor local fame in Gary.

Honestly though, the fact that Mike's a huge perv aside...

Yes, it would have been the decent thing to do to sort of kick back his success if his hometown could use the boost and if his town had treated him well. shrug
