Rick Springfield "Venus in Overdrive" the perfect record.....

Not that i doubted Rick would hit me with a good record, but im beginning to question HOW this guy does it at 58!! I dont mean record, im talking sounding fresher than anyone out now, playing with more energy than a teenager, and putting out albums and doing tours at a very 80's and 70's pace.

12 tracks of perfection, plus 2 bonus tracks of covers (one being his own song)

track by track

Whats victorias secret- is he playing "jessies girl"'s riff at times. Oh yes he is, and to loyal fans, he is alos channeling the chorus breakdown of another song called "Lust". This song should be on every freaking playlist for every radio station today, get with it

I'll Miss that Someday- Rick almost sounds like he is goofing on the bands of today that really rip him off with the lo-fi to hi-fi sound that he has used many times in his hits.

Venus in Overdrive- Rick and the band show their chops on this one, and they sound like a band that has been playing together and touring together for 12 years now, perfect and in time.

One Passenger- that riff screams hit, but of course these days radio blows and good riffs dont get time, they get called "Dated" and we get stuck with people like Jesse McCartney being called Rock...FUCK THAT!

Oblivious- Rick seems to be going bands like Coldplay and Snow Patrol on this one. This is Rick doing a more pop/rock version of something that could have easily worked during Coldplays "radio play" days.

3 Warning Shots- very eerie and angry song, with a mixed message. Clearly its about Lennon, but it could seem as if Rick's plan to kill Mark Chapman in his dreams. "I'll give you 3 warning shots to the head"

Time Stand Still- Rick going Punk somewhat, but still well crafted pop/rock song, perfect, manic.

God Blinked (swing it sister)- think Rick cant play and jam??? Put this shit on and get schooled!!

Mr. PC- Political Rick....yet agin Rick and power playing power rock riffs no flaws, radio where the fuck are you????

She- once again PERFECT, Rick showing he grew up on the Beatles back in Austraila. Song mixes a very "lennon esque vocal, on a scratchy 45/78 sound" mixed in with clearer vocals and an acoustic guitar with a booming rock chorus. Great song live as with all these cuts

nothing is ever lost- a 90 second acoustic/accapella multitracked vocal of Rick only. Beautiful lyric and image "Nothing is ever lost, we just lose sight along the way"

Saint Sahara- dedicated to the very young daughter of a lifelong Rick fan, the little girl died about a year ago, great tribute, not sad, just hopeful

Bonus Tracks

My Generation- the Who classic
jessies Girl- an acoustic version just recorded

all in all, perfect, Rick delivering what he does best, Rock,, hes not hitting us with a 360 and doing some akon or timbaland prodcued record, rick is just being rick but doing it better than anyone.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
