Another weekend,another vinyl dig

This past weekend,I went on another vinyl dig and I found the following albums...

***'Winners' by Brothers Johnson (1981)---I already had a copy of this album but it's kinda worn out so I'm glad that I found a fresh copy in mint condition. It's a promo copy that looks brand new.

***'Breakin Away' by Al Jarreau (1981)---I remember liking the title track alot.

***'Midnight Magic' by The Commodores (1979)---This is another album that I already had,but it was worn out.The new copy is like brand new.

***'The Invisible Man's Band' (1980)---This is a rare album that I never expected to find! I'm familiar with the smash hit "All Night Thing" and I can't wait to check out the other songs.

***'Jerry Knight' (1980)---Another rare album that I didn't expect to ever find! Contains the spring 1980 hit "Overnight Sensation".Interestingly, this album and the Invisible Man's Band album were both in the "rock" section...lol...the album covers don't include the artists,so the store personnel probably had no idea what kinda music is on these albums. This is why, when you go shopping for old vinyl,it's a good idea to check every section. You never know what you will find! Many rare records are miscategorized.

***'Shadow Dancing' by Andy Gibb (1978)---The title track was the first 45 single I bought with my own money lol

***'Two' by GQ (1980)---The second album by disco/funk band GQ.Contains the hits "Standing Ovation" and "Sitting In The Park",plus the Quiet Storm favorite "Don't Stop This Feeling".

***'A Place In The Sun' by Pablo Cruise (1977)---The hit single "Whatcha Gonna Do" gives me a nostalgic,late-70s feeling. These guys have a cool,laid-back rock/pop sound.

***'Worlds Away' by Pablo Cruise (1978)---This album contains the big hit "Love Will Find A Way".

***'Nightbirds' by LaBelle (1975)---I love when I come across an album that still has the plastic wrapped around it,as well as the sticker lol This is the big album that features "Lady Marmalade".

***'Jeffrey Osborne' (1982)---His 1982 debut solo album featuring "I Really Don't Need No Light","On The Wings Of Love" and one of my favorites "Eenie Meenie".

***'Make It Easy On Yourself' by Dionne Warwick---This seems to be some kind of reissue/compilation? When I was a kid,I remember my parents had a few of her late 60s albums so I'm familiar with most of these songs.Contains songs like "They Long To Be Close To You","Walk On By","The Look Of Love",etc.

***'Love Zone' by Billy Ocean (1986)---I wasn't a huge fan of most of Billy Ocean's pop hits during this period, but I like a few songs on this album ("When The Going Gets Tough,The Tough Get Going","Love Is Forever").

***'Naughty' by Chaka Khan (1980)---An album I used to own,but lost it somewhere along the way.

***'Chaka Khan' (1982)---This album contains a sizzling duet with Rick James "Slow Dancing" but it's probably best remembered for her remake of Michael Jackson's "Got To Be There".

***'CK' by Chaka Khan (1988)---One of the few Chaka albums that I never heard. This one contains the much-talked about collaboration with Prince and Miles Davis,"Sticky Wicked".

***'Goin Places' by Michael Henderson (1977)---Based on Vainandy's recommendation,I picked up this album.

***'Wide Receiver' by Michael Henderson (1980)---I know the title track but I can't wait to hear the other tracks.

***'Live and Uncensored' by Millie Jackson (1979)

***'Living All Alone' by Phyllis Hyman (1986)---Contains her finest song "Old Friend" music This album is a Quiet Storm favorite.

***'Break Out' by Pointer Sisters (1983)---The album that turned them into superstars. You can't discuss 1984 without mentioning this album, which was all over the radio.

***'Watching You,Watching Me' by Bill Withers (1985)---Who remembers the first single "Oh Yeah"? A nice, mellow, breezy midtempo track music

***'Mahogany' movie soundtrack (1975)---I think it was Harleopolis who recommended this album to me.I love the movie and the hit theme song ("Do You Know Where You're Going To"),plus there a couple of cool uptempo Jermaine Jackson songs.

***'Rit' by Lee Ritenour (1981)---The song "Is It You" is included on this album music

***'Together Again' by Tierra (1981)---I'm in the process of collecting all of their albums.

***'You Bought It,You Name It' by Joe Walsh (1983)---Not so long ago,I did a thread on the song "Space Age Whiz Kids",an MTV hit from that summer. After all these years,I finally found the album!

***'Midnight Light' by LeBlanc and Carr (1977)---Only the real 70s fanatics would remember this album, lol.Contains the sappy, schmaltzy pop ballad "Falling",which I love lol

***'Silver Convention' (1976)---contains the disco hit "Get Up And Boogie (That's Right)".

I also bought a few of those K-Tel-like albums that feature a bunch of songs by various artists.

Here's an album I found on Ebay.Been looking for it FOR YEARS with no luck,so I finally just decided to go to Ebay.Released in late 1983,it's a trashy,outrageous,Prince-inspired album with some truly funky grooves. The hit single "I Need A Freak" got alot airplay in clubs and on R&B radio.Like the Vanity 6 album,it's alot of fun if you don't take it all too seriously lol

This is Jeffery's best solo album IMO, "What You Been Missin'" is my favorite cut off this album, I love the horns, vocals on it.

You did some major shopping on this dig. Let me know how the rest of that Invisible Man's Band album is. As for Michael Henderson's "Wide Receiver" album, be sure to check out "Prove It". It's a funk/rock type track they used to play on the radio when the album was in style.

nod Glancing at the tracklist,I can see that most of these songs became big hits. And these songs are excellent.....catchy and infectious! This is 80s pop at it's best."Automatic" is one of my favorite 80s songs.Makes me smile when I hear it lol it's so fun and catchy with a strong, memorable chorus.I can't believe that I'm just now getting this album, lol.

I played a little bit of "At The Concert",a song you have mentioned a few times.I expected it to be some hardcore funk jam,but it's a surprisingly jazzy, midtempo duet with Roberta Flack! LOL

I also played a little bit of the Invisible Man's Band album. One song "Rent Strike" is funky as hell, despite it's odd lyrics lol

eek Are we talking about the same song here? When I mention "At The Concert", I'm talking about Bill Summers and Summers Heat. It's an uptempo funk jam just as fast as "Call It What You Want".
