Dionne Warwick/Bacharach Classic Twofer One to make you cry...
I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself (1966) I think it's Dionne's most heartbreaking song. Love her pleading vocals on this one. As was the case with several of her songs, she was one of a few artists to record this song. Dusty Springfield also did a beautiful job on this one, but I like Dionne's most of all, mostly due to the production. Chart Performance: #20 (R&B), #26 (Hot 100) One to bring you back up... Any Old Time of the Day (1964) This one wasn't a proper single, but it got some airplay as the B-side to the classic Walk on By (which peaked at #6 on both the R&B and Hot 100 chart). The combination of the sax, strings and backing vocals in the intro and during the second verse make the song. I think it's one of Dionne's best vocal performance. Listen to the crescendo of her voice starting around the 2:42 mark. She hits a really strong high note. | |
