The Isley Brothers: Kings of Part 1 and 2

I have noticed that throughout The Isley Brothers discography, a lot of their songs are listed as Part 1 and 2. Does anybody know why they have so many songs like that or the reasoning behind recording or listing the songs like that? I often wondered about that. Are there other artists known for having multiple parts to their songs?

Songs that have Part 1 & 2:

At Your Best You Are Love
Fight The Power
Footsteps In The Dark
For The Love of You
How Lucky I Am
It's A Disco Night (Rock Don't Stop)
Live It Up
Make Me Say It Again Girl
Midnight Sky
The Pride
Sensuality
Shout
Take Me To The Next Phase
Testify
That Lady
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

From what I gather, they did it for a couple of reasons. One is that some of the songs were over 6 minutes long. Normally for those, they would issue it in 2 parts.

The other would be the way some of the songs were split on the 8-track tapes. This especially applies to For the Love Of You. That song isn't that long, it was just split into 2 parts on the 8-track.

A simple function of keeping songs under the 5/6 minute mark. Nothing more 2 it than that.

yup thats all to it, for the 45, Part 1 would fall under the 6 minute mark. So the LP versions would included the whole track as Parts one and two

8-tracks were so annoying lol You'd be listening to a song and then it would fade out suddenly. You'd have to wait a few seconds for it to continue, lol.

He also had a four-parter, albeit in different styles but with the same theme: "Popcorn". smile

I think JB and the Isleys were truly the kings of parts 1 & 2 most def.
