Another new recording artist at that time, Vanessa Williams, also scored several hits. Vanessa's first 2 albums The Right Stuff and The Comfort Zone found success on both the r&b and pop charts from 1988-1992.
Of course, Vanessa continued to record after 1992, but most of those other songs were mostly soft/corny ballads. Anyway, my question is, what do/did you all think of Vanessa's music during her peak years of 1988-1992? I'm not entirely sure, but isn't it true that Vanessa was one of the few successful r&b/pop girls who didn't use either Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis or Baby Face/L.A. Reid during the late 80's to early 90's? She has such a beautiful voice. My favorite song is... "Love Is" ft.Brian McKnight. It gets right to the heart. I feel this really set her apart from Janet, Jody, Karyn and Pebbles. Vanessa's biggest hits from this period: from album #1 The Right Stuff "The Right Stuff" "(He's Got) The Look" "Dreamin" "Darlin' I" from album #2 [i]The Comfort Zone[i] "Running Back To You" "The Comfort Zone" "Save The Best For Last" "Just For Tonight" "Work To Do" Lemme

Well I never really payed that much attention to her apart from "Save The Best For Last", but I had a friend who used to play Vanessa's music all the time when I was at her house so I had no choice but to listen lol. I wouldn't say i'm really a big fan, but I do like "Betcha Never", "The Sweetest Days", "You Know You Can't Run", "Heartquake" (From A Diva's Christmas Carol) as well as some songs from her x-mas album. was hoping this would be the album with "Dreamin" on it never really got into her I loved her in Soul Food because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

I like Vanessa, but as far as her music goes, after "The Comfort Zone" album, her music was kind of :boring:
She use to make those feel good ballad songs without feeling like you were at a funeral like "Dreamin'" to the "i'm going out with my girls tonight" cuts like "Running Back To You", "The Right Stuff", and "Get Free". I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I love you can't run. work to do is cool, and there was a song on her first cd, called if you really love him. I wish that would have come out too. Hell a lot of her slow songs were really good. The comfort zone cd always seems to be the easiest to find at the stores. nipsy

I hate that song "Save The Best For Last" simply from overkill back in the early 90s. Lite radio (at work) still plays that from time to time.
Remember the In Living Color parody "Kiss My Ass"? Since Soul Food, I think of her more as an actress.

I liked most of Vanessa Williams' Adult Contemporary catalogue.
The Comfort Zone is my favorite Vanessa album. "Save The Best For Last," "Running Back To You," "Work To Do" and the Angela Bofill cover of "Still In Love" were all great. Plus, I love the entire back section of that album, including "Goodbye" with Brian McKnight on backing vox. As far as her singles, she managed to be consistent yet elegant. I liked "Dreamin'," the Nu Shooz-sampled, Jam & Lewis cut "Happiness" from Next and scattered offerings such as "Betcha Never" with Babyface and "Love Is."

I like her songs too (probably for that reason) Yes, I do have mini-van memories of a lot of Vanessa's stuff. My mom had the cassette of that album. ha!

I only like two songs, "The Right Stuff" and "Running Back To You". The rest of her stuff is dull. Andy is a four letter word.

Is this a new movie? I recently saw her in a small movie called "My Brother" or something and it was good but really dark and had major story issues. And she is more of a supporting player in the movie.

Really? It, "Save the Best for Last," and "Dreamin'" are her only #1 songs (although "The Comfort Zone" just missed, kept at bay by "I Love Your Smile"). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Nothing special tho. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
