Mercury Rev to release TWO new albums, September 29 from their website, www.mercuryrev.com ...
On September 29, 2008 MERCURY REV will release their seventh studio album, SNOWFLAKE MIDNIGHT. It includes nine new songs, each one’s crystalline form completely unique. Zoom in on any part of SNOWFLAKE MIDNIGHT and at any magnification, it always reveals the forces of symmetry and chaos. Innocent, intuitive, and elusive, SNOWFLAKE MIDNIGHT never fails to resemble itself… a mirror in a mirror in a mirror.
But wait, there’s more…SNOWFLAKE MIDNIGHT has its companion… STRANGE ATTRACTOR. The STRANGE ATTRACTOR full-length album includes eleven FREE tracks. That’s right, this album is absolutely FREE to download for anyone who chooses to do so. Simply click on the mailing list link to the right, give us a little information about yourself and you’ll receive electronic instructions directly following the release of SNOWFLAKE MIDNIGHT. It's very noisy and energetic. thankfully, it seems they are getting away from the extreme tweeness of their last album. they'd really gone about as far in that direction as they could take it over the course of the last two. anyone here a fan? | |

Strange Attractor is apparently an instrumental album. Code to download will be sent out via mailing list on the release date of the other one.

Okay, I've been listening to this on and off for about a week now.
I still can't make up my mind whether it's better or worse than their last album. It's not as melodic as that one, but it's got a darker, harder edge, which is good. Still pondering. | |
