Anyone who have tip for an funk-noob?

Other then P and some of george clintons 80´s stuff i havent heard much funk, but im intressted in more.
Where should i start?

Thank you all for your tips, i forgot that i also have listned to zapp and much mpls stuff like the time and andre cymone.

I was gonna say: Stop! Don't listen to them! Start with Zapp! But, aha you did.

I kinda recognize me in you, since Prince and GC were the first stop in funk for me too. James Brown, I'd say, wait a while, he's very far from the hard-hitting 80s funk you're used to. Sly Stone could be a bit tricky as well, best to start off with Fresh (as mentioned by cosmicdancer).

My advice would be to start with Graham central station - Release yourself.
Then go to accessible Parliament like Chocolate City or Motor Booty Affair.
