^^^^I'd say yes... but it depends in which country you are... there are like 24 versions of this disc... each country got a different one!

The US two disc edition is great. It at least touches on every studio album (including one song each from what I like to think of as his Renassiance period, 1993-2002) and includes all the essentails (even that silly ass cover of "Dancing In the Streets" with Jagger). "The Platinum Collection" is pretty great as it touches on a whole lot from before that era (hell, even "Underground" from Labrintyh is on the eighties disc and the mid to late seventies disc has a particutarlly nice tracklisting..."1984" is great).

And to answer the original question, of course I love both. I sometimes wish Bowie might have been more influenced by Princej during the eighties, though, rather than making some really bland dance pop.

Huge fan of both men. At times, Bowie more than Prince, butboth men are innovators.

Bowie has so many greatest hits compilations that some of them leave off the real gems. Best of Bowie lacked the best songs from Station to Station (Stay, S2S,Word on a Wing). HIs real value is in some of the live appearances from the talk show circuit back in the day (Dinah, Dick Cavett)

I wish Prince would release a new hits compilation. At this point and time, he needs to capture the music of the past 15 years (12 since WB) in a nice and neat package. He has music that would appeal to the fans and fams alike.

Bowie's kewl I guess, but I can't get into him for some reason.

Actually, I know why I can't get into him:

hell, if all i ever heard of prince was "1999: the new master", i'd never have become a prince fan. pick your battles - and your prince and bowie music - wisely!

Somehow I could never get into his music, but I used to feel the same way about Prince when I was young, so maybe Bowie will be my next discovery.

But I do like him as a person, even though I saw only one of his interviews. lol

Bowie? Who was that again? confused bawl

Seriously, Bowie's my all-time fave, I guess. Or at least on par with Prince. Considering interviews and such, he's miles ahead. Lyrics, too. Mostly much more interesting, IMO. I think he's really funny and interesting. Youtube is full of interesting things Bowie. I do not know his 80s stuff though, except for Let's Dance and of course Absolute Beginners which is one of his all-time best songs, and I don't plan on getting to know it. lol

Just like Prince, sometimes Bowie turns a rather crappy studio song into something amazing live....

Don't know the movie and have to admit I'm not all that familiar with the studio version either but these live versions are pure heaven. His vocals...

If I ever get to see him live again, especially in a rather small place, and he plays this song, I'm going to drown in tears. Seriously.

then again, i'm a big fan of the "come" album, so i may be in a huge minority with this one. redface

Well, not when it comes to actual sound. More about how holy those two albums are to me.

If you wanna compare sound, scope, I suppose Low is closer to, ermmmm. Well, nothing Prince has ever done. Prince should do more drugs.

low and come are both very solitary, very lonely and dark sounding albums to me. i guess i make the comparison within the context of each performer, not really trying to say one sounds like the other. just how both albums feel and where the mood came from in terms of where they both were at the time they created them. they were both trapped in a world of excess and celebrity and it was getting the best of them, and both were looking desperately for a new direction. that's my reading, anyway. shrug

SOTT is a great album, but it's also as joyous and as much of a party as it is dark and reflective. i don't know what bowie album i would or could compare it to.

I'm kidding.

I respect him as an artist and generally like his stuff, but as with other bastardized music, I just can't take him seriously enough to really get into him. I'd rather have the real thing.

I bought the Platinum collection about a week ago, I didn't have time to sit down and listen to it... The only reason I bought it is the fact he's too damn interesting to ignore biggrin

The only songs I "truly" experienced (as in multiple listens or just sitting down and have a good hard listen) are "Rebel Rebel" and "Ziggy Stardust"... both works of genius IMO.
