The One Man Show - Thomas Dolby BlaqueKnight brought up the subject of how to approach a solo performance in the VAN HUNT ARTICLE thread.
Whether to go completely acoustic or include sequences. This reminded me of Thomas Dolby's Sole Inhabitant Tour that I saw a few years ago: http://prince.org/msg/8/185529 One of the unique things about his approach was that instead of using prefab sequences and just singing and playing the occasional keyboard part, he programmed each song's sequence live in real time. A bit of a highwire act without a net if you ask me, but he pulled it off. I just noticed that he did a series of podcasts from this tour. ...Introduction ...Leipzig ...One Of Our Submarines ...I Live In A Suitcase ...Flying North ...She Blinded Me With Science =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Feel free to comment or add any interesting approaches to solo performance you're familiar with. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Interesting fella, that Dolby.
Reminds me of that Imogen Heap performance, where she uses the same idea; vocal loops to accompany herself, recorded live in real time too.

The entire concert was done by himself, beatboxing and looping himself. It was weird, since he has to start up a song for a minute, but it does build up some tension. Wasn't Prince planning something like this? Around 2002, I think. Playing a tour with his own one-man-band.

I believe we saw him at the same venue... It did suck. I saw Dolby and he definitely had his anti-suck machine on full blast. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."
