Yes they are a band, and should not be considered a "group"... but whatever.... scratch that. Where do you rank them on your male 90's r&b groups/bands list? Number 1? Top 3? Top 5? Top 10? Top 20?

I'd have them second, right behind Tony!Toni!Tone!...

i don't put Mint in a category with most of those groups. Thir music has always felt more grown up to me. Most of those cats named didn't even play an instrument. i think they belong in their category.

As for that BIIM comment, I kinda agree with that. Their first 2 albums were good, but when they dropped Evolution, they started to lose me.

Anyway, my favorite R&B groups (or artists with a band) of the 1990s are some of the same from the 1970s and 1980s....Prince, Chic, War, Cameo, The Barkays, and Roger. All these groups had a decent album in the 1990s. Unfortunately the music scene was so damn dull in the 1990s that they got very little or no airplay.

Guy would be my favorite, but half of their great material is from the late '80s. Vocally, Shai was my favorite by a long shot, but they never managed to create a consistently great album (well, other than the remix CD -- that one is fire!). Boyz II Men and Jodeci will always hold a special place in my heart, but they both followed the same blazing-start-and-quick-fade career path (something Dru Hill repeated -- always following Jodeci ).

Mint Condition certainly weren't among the biggest hit makers, but they were right up at the top talent-wise. Personally, I prefer Tony! Toni! Toné!, but Mint rocks. "U Send Me Swingin'" is one of the best R&B songs of the decade IMO.

EWF and such groups were still making music, yes, but they are generally considered artists of another decade specifically, the 70's.

They are the Isley Brothers/EWF/Slave of todays music.

Personally Jodeci, Guy, And Toni, I wouldnt put over Mint but are in the same range, so I can understand someone else doing putting them over Mint in a way, but BLACKstreet? I really think there was nothing special about those guys at all....

Mint is in a category all their own, just 'cause I love them so damn much. I just wish they would change their set a bit. So much to peform but they get stuck playing the same songs, at least here in NYC...

Six top-10 hits... certainly not a bad track record, but nothing compared to Tony! Toni! Toné!, who have 12 top-10 hits, 10 of which were top 5 and 5 of which ("Little Walter," "The Blues," "Feels Good," "It Never Rains," and "Whatever You Want") reached #1.
