where do you see janet for the next 10 years?

Be honest, where do you see her and her career going? As much as I like Discipline, I don't think anyone cares she's touring and I don't see her doing much musically again. She will just have kids and do movies here and there, hopefully with soundtrack songs.

My answer would have been totally different during All For You, cause she was still on a commercial roll.

Commercially, things are over unless she replaces most of the people on her team, figures out how to properly promote her work, and takes charge of her career again. Until then, no dice. I think she'll be recording for some time, though.

I see her still recording whatever the popular style of the day is.....and in ten years, the style will probably still be today's style.....since it hasn't changed in 15 years anyway.

janet will be relegated to same part of the music scene as Prince and the Rolling Stones, but I personally don't see her touring like they do.

Okay I see her continuing to record too, but the cycle will be the same. She'll come back, people will say she's too slutty or fat again, call her flop and insist 20 YO is a better album :p Not saying I feel that way, I'm going by comments that I hear everytime she comes back.

I think the direction of her career will depend on if she decides to have children or not.

I see her still recording myself, in that same whispering style that has made her famous. In fact, it is because of this style that a new line of TV's will be introduced especially designed for the hard of hearing, (i.e. powered speakers and sub-titles).

she will be what 52? i dont think any janet fans expect her to be havin any major commercial success, im hoping she will forget trying to compete with the current crop of pop females, hook back up with jam n lewis and make a slow jam/mid-tempo album. i think janet has a backup career in movies if she really wanna take it serious. at the end of the day i think she's had a great career and no matter what her critics and haters say they cant dispute her impact or her accomplishments.

The next decade Janet will be diversifying her brand moreso than ever before. Now that she has had THREE albums in a row, each ensuing project selling lower and lower, she knows she needs to do other things. Hell, in the past year alone she has starred in a feature film, announced she will star in a reality show, signed a deal to design lingerie, and put together a book on her fitness/nutrition regimen that will be out this year. And she's going back on the road after seven years. She knows more than anyone that Janet Jackson, the brand, can no longer thrive on pop singles, LPs, and videos. Whether she continues to make records - and I sincerely hope she does - remains to be seen. I don't see IDJ wanting to pour any more dough into another LP for her.

I'd say she'll do more films, perhaps even acting gigs on Broadway; guest star on some TV spots; perform live more often than she has this past decade - I wouldn't be surprised to see her in Vegas in the next couple years; and I swear there is some sort of future for her in the fitness world, whether she wants to put out Cardio Dance DVDs, continue with books on the subject - who knows? And if this reality show does well, perhaps it goes for three, four, five seasons a la Diddy's Making the Band? All she needs is to 'hit' in one of these other areas and she can be a hot commodity again.

And don't count out her having a big number one comeback single in the next ten years; if Cher could, Janet can.

She'll have re-invent herself and try some new things. What she's been doing for the past few years clearly isn't working.

the media has decided she's over, commercially speaking. radio won't play her. even ticketmaster didn't put her on the front page of their website when her tour was announced or going on sale.

i don't see what she can do other than make music she wants to. at this point she's got her money so maybe its time to grow as an artist and hope the hardcore following will stick by her while she ventures into new territory.

or she can continue on as a greatest hits machine, like cher...

I think she'll be pretty obscure.
She's flatlined at shock pop. And I'm not sure how well that matures.

Madonna, also a fan of shock, has been able to nimbly reinvent herself much, much better. She doesn't give off as desperate a vibe...

I noticed that too about ticketmaster, it felt like no one cared that janet is touring, whereas people used to be excited about her tours.

Nowhere if she continues the same bland, gay gothic music that she's doing, i.e. Rock Wit U. Have you seen the video? I mean who really dresses like that at parties? Even my 9 year old daughter who loves the "old" Janet Jackson music can't stand her new crap. She actually turned off the Rock Wit U video during the middle of it saying it was too "weird". I agree with her. Bring back the pop/funk woman! Quit with this pseudo-techno whispering bullshit.

I have to agree that she should re-team with J&L regardless, if she is going to continue putting out new records. Much as I love 'Discipline' I think it's best moments are the unabashed, shamelss Jam and Lewis rip offs (RollerCoaster, Discipline, Luv, So Much Betta, Curtains)

Still being discussed on this forum.

and it will still be the record company's lack of promotion that her albums don't sell.

I think commercially she's in trouble, because she won't be able to bank on dancing & sex appeal forever, and she doesn't have the vocal chops to rely on that. In fact, I think that reality has already begun.

well it is a palpable FACT that all 3 of her last albums were not pushed by the labels...

then again, right before each one she has done a massive GMA or Today show concert the day of the release, appeared on Larry King or Oprah or the Super Bowl...

...i agree, part of it has to be just that the public at large is indifferent to her and her music. the scandal part of her they seem to love (weight gain, tittygate, sex life with JD, weight loss, MJ gossip) but only the fans care about her music.

i love janet. i loved damita jo and discipline. nonetheless, what can anyone expect when she really has released the same record (excluding velvet rope) for the past 15 years.

it's true media has turned on her, for sure. and that has definitely played a part in her downfall. however, media wants to make money and if the interest was there they'd push her, especially in times like this where they can't give cds away for the filesharing.

janet needs to shake things up. she needs a change of direction. she doesn't have to change genres or styles but she needs to get edgy and interesting. nobody cares where her next orgasm is coming from or how she's achieving it.

I know she was once a TV star, but once she became a pop megastar, she can't go back.

I don't think pop stars that start out as actors can ever successfully transition back into full time, successful actors (read JLo). She may have a hit movie here or there (like Cher), but overall her personality as a pop figure with six pack abs, the proponent of Nipplegate, and MJ's sister have overcome an audience's ability to look at her as a character onscreen and not "miss jackson if ya nasty."

she most likely will have more misses (a la Justin, Madonna) than hits IMO.

im sayin - Vegas!

Sadly, many of today's artists are afraid to branch out, take chances and venture out of their comfort zones.Especially in the R&B world, where most artists work with the same two of three producers. There's no way that Janet can make interesting, edgy music working with the likes of Ne-Yo.
