What's the rest of that album like? I only know that tune from it and, of course, his 1984 hit Wouldn't It Be Good.

I really like Radio Musicola(wish there was more of it on youtube!) - Most of the record is R&B fueled 80's Pop and SynthPop.... that album and The Riddle are my favorites (though The Works and Human Racing are kinda Kool, too).

I think the problem Nik had was that there was so much emphasis record company on the Pop Star Image--he was basically marketed to the little girls, and once they stopped listening, that was it.
Funny, I got into him when I was reading a Tower Records Pulse Magazine back in tha day-- they had an interview with him and they always had people list their "Desert Island discs" Y'know, the ten albums you would take with you...and I realized he had the same tastes I did, lol He was a big fan of The Pat Metheny Group,Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Weather Report, Peter Gabriel, Joni Mitchell, Level 42--I was like, "All my shit!", lol "I gotta check dude out!!!"

He was also a big fan of session guys like Jerry Hey and Kim Hutchcroft (Seawind Horns)as you can tell by the horn arrangements on that Radio Musicola track...

Anyway, even though it was 80's radio friendly-pop, his influences did come through--- check out them chords in the middle(2:13) and the end of "Know How", and Level 42's Mark King layin' it down on Bass on the track, "Easy" (both from his '84 album, "The Riddle"):

Know How

Easy

Human Racing

The Whales

Dancing Girls

Life Goes On
