Etta James: The Fire Inside If unabashed quality were the main harbinger of success, this record couldn’t have possibly been pressed fast enough.
Taken from a club recording in September of 1963, this is the fiery, raw, blues foundation that informed a lot of rock & soul. If I had this time machine perfected I'd like to go back and be in that crowd. One of the cornerstones of my music collection.

And yet another album to be added to my wish list! I absolutely adore Etta James. Her voice is just so spirited and soulful. Thank you so much for sharing this.

It's funny the photos they used for the album cover has Etta with that Ace bandage on her right hand.
I wonder if she had to do some crowd control during a prior show? Although she was a hottie in her younger days, she looked like she could put somebody in check if she had to. There used to be a b/w video on YouTube from a 1958 live performance of Etta James doing Roll With Me Henry. The crowd got so excited that people rushed the stage and started dancing. You can see the police trying to hold things down but they eventually lost control. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 [Edited 7/13/08 15:50pm] "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

You're more than welcome. And if you already adore Etta, you haven't a fighting chance.

In the center picture it looks like she’s pointing out yet another fool that’s about to get a beat down if he keeps that energy flowing in a negative direction. She kind of had a way of drawing the full force out of people. I’m sure that she new the psychology of mosh pits way before punk. And, yes, I don’t think she'd be shy about interacting with certain members of the crowd. If there were any body guards there that night, I’m sure that their main task was in trying to keep Etta from giving some of these fools what they deserved. And it’s also rumored that this saxophone was fighting mad both during and after this performance in the face of Etta constantly taking its job.
