So I started a thread a while back about artists that we now view as legends. Who were their influences and who were the artist that they inspired? Obviously they have to be artists that have been around for a while, so don't expect to see Young Jeezy or the Arctic Monkeys here. But you could say a band like The Jam who influenced the Arctic Monkeys, or 2Pac who influenced Young Jeezy.

The roots of that whole music scene that Joy Division was a part of in Manchester always confused me some. 24 Hour Party People helped sort it out some, but also confused me more. How long after JD started did The Cure come about?

But then they got into other kinds of sounds like Bowie and Kraftwerk which gave them that darker, Gothic style. But when you listen to Simon Gallup from the Cure's bass playing, you can tell that he was inspired by Peter Hook. Hooky started that melodic, treble-like way of playing bass that other bands like The Cure and Interpol took up later on.

james brown was a huge unfluence on prince and mj and on hip hop due to sampling so its hard to list the people he has influenced
