Yeah, they had some great songs but the songs have been overplayed in my area until I am absolutely sick of hearing them. Not to mention the critics praising them every chance they get. And don't even get me started on all the acts that sampled them (which is a turnoff to me). I like them and all but funk progressed and moved on. To listen to these critics in the media, you would think that funk stayed with acts like Parliament or James Brown and never moved on. My favorites have always been the ones like The Barkays or Lakeside that you never hear folks talk about any more.
I'm sick of Parliment/Funadelic also. The only saving grace for them is "Knee Deep" for me. To me, it is the funkiest song ever laid down. However, I wish the song "Flashlight" would just evaporate into thin air. I don't care if I ever hear it again as long as I live. I think critics praise GC and his songs because he was innovative and creative at his approach in creating music. Yeah, people like Cameo, Lakeside, the Bar-Kays, etc. all are excellent funk bands, but they didn't have the mass appeal and creative/crazy mind like GC. [Edited 7/14/08 22:13pm] [Edited 7/14/08 22:16pm] Oh, I am sooooo sick of hearing "Flashlight". You better believe, it gets played to death on every old school radio show. One weekend, I even heard it played twice in a four hour period. And anytime there is a 70s themed party, they play that damn song like it's the only one in their collection. "Tear The Roof Of The Sucka" is another one I'm tired of hearing also. After Parliament/Funkadelic, I'm voting off The Ohio Players. They wear the hell out of "Fire" just like they do "Flashlight". Hell, I even remember Shitney Houston trying to sing "Fire" on her reality show when she was camping and barbequeing with her husband. That incident scarred me for life when it comes to the song "Fire". Hell, I'd rather be listening to stuff like Ebonee Webb, Con Funk Shun, or Lakeside. Give me some damn Rafael Cameron too and throw in some "Bedrock" by Glass. I've got too many records to concentrate on just Parliament or The Ohio Players. Of course, you know who owns most of these damn stations anyway...Clear Channel. So it ain't like they know their funk. They play the hell out of what the critics have praised and that's all they play. Andy is a four letter word.

That's blasphemy Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the song....but it has been played so much in my area over the last 10 years that I don't care if I ever hear it again. Like I said...it can evaporate into thin air and I wouldn't cry. I can kind of relate. When you listen to a parliament/funkadelic cd you will be hard pressed to find more than 3 that you can listen to from beginning to end because george had such a cartoonic mind with his style of funk but flashlight has a nasty groove that despite what vainandy says you have to shake your ass when that record comes on. I don't know what scares me more, the fact that Whitney tried singing 'Fire', or the fact that you were watching her reality show It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I don't know what scares me more, the fact that Whitney tried singing 'Fire', or the fact that you were watching her reality show I was a big fan of the show and never missed an episode. I kept hoping she would get in a fight with Bobby and he would whoop her ass right there on the camera. Andy is a four letter word.

I'm a fan of her comedy, not her music. And those crack years were the best. Hell, she should have gotten on drugs from day one. I never said she didn't have a good voice though. If she had been on drugs in her early years, she could have hooked up with Rick James and made some good music to go along with her good voice. Instead, she chose to go with some old white haired buzzard and make music for the Lawrence Welk type crowd. Andy is a four letter word.
