FUNK MUSIC BAND SURVIVOR - ROUND ONE

The game is pretty simple: Twelve of the biggest bands/quasi-bands of the '70s and '80s funk era are on an island, with Org members choosing who has to swim the shark-infested waters of obscurity:

* The Bar-Kays
* Cameo
* The Commodores
* Earth, Wind & Fire
* The Isley Brothers
* The Jackson 5/The Jacksons
* Kool & The Gang
* The Ohio Players
* Parliament-Funkadelic
* Rufus feat. Chaka Khan
* Sly and The Family Stone
* The Time

The first act to receive 10 votes will lose its funk ... by sleeping with Whitney Houston!

"Funk is wack, bitches!"

I agree. Nothing against the Jacksons but since this is a "Funk Music Band" survivor, I think the Jacksons are the least qualified of the bunch in the type of music in question.

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

This time last year, I would have voted off The Commodores. However, over this past year, I have bought four of their albums and they have lots of funky stuff. Unfortunately, the only funky track the radio seems to be stuck on these days is "Brick House". They play the hell out of their slow stuff though. Same goes with The Isley Brothers. If you weren't around back in the day, judging by today's radio, you would think the group was a bunch of balladeers.

So far:

The Jackson 5/The Jacksons: seven votes
The Time: two votes
Cameo and The Commodores: one vote each

Please don't subject little Michael Jackson to this horror! You've seen what he's like already without sleeping with Whitney (then again, maybe he wouldn't have turned out to be so nuts)!

SERIOUS NOTE: Don't get caught up too literally in the term "funk band." I'm using it a more as an umbrella term in the context of describing the self-contained bands of the '70s and '80s. So if you want to recast your vote, you can.

...Amen

Once you've heard that, and at least their first 4 albums...

...all will be forgiven. Well, almost all. wink

Their early material establishes them as a major FUNK entity.

OK, the votes are in!

The Jackson 5/The Jacksons: 10 votes
The Time: three votes
Cameo and The Commodores: one vote each

That means Michael, Jackie, Jermaine, Randy and Tito have a backstage groupie:

"Bring the little one first! I'm gonna turn that lil' mutha OUT!"

Unfourtnately (or fortunately, in this case), Marlon has to guard the door because he missed a dance step in practice!

The second round starts NOW!
