I'm a massive Nirvana fan, I even made the trip to Aberdeen, Washington to visit the Wishkah Bridge and where Kurt grew up. Went to the Lake Washington house in Seattle where he died as well and left a message on the tribute bench there - there's a very eery vibe about that place.
I'd have to say that while I enjoy the catchy radio-friendlyness of 'Nevermind' and the visceral raw energy of 'Bleach', the emotional complexity, dynamic and overall great songwriting found on 'In Utero' would make it my favorite Nirvana album. Songs like "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle', 'All Apologies' and 'Scentless Apprentice' just show how far ahead of the game Kurt was. RIP Kurt! |

It's my fave as well; it took the angle out of the commercialism of their sound and made it better.

I like Nirvana a lot. Technically, they weren't as good as STP, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden & AIC(IMO), but they had that special something Militant touched on.

"In Utero" is my favorite, too. "Heart-Shaped Box" is one of their best songs. Just love it.
I also really like "Bleach." "She made me glad to be a man"

I also really like "Bleach." do nirvana fans concider in utero en bleach as real nirvana albums and nevermind was too poppy and well crafted with studio trickery?

I consider tem all Nirvana albums, but I always thought that with In Utero they were coming into their own, more mature, more interesting songwriting.

I was a huge Nirvana fan a few years back, and then just got over it a bit once the boxset finally came out...I was sad because I knew that would be the last of Nirvana material ever released...sure they have finally released Live, Tonight, Sold Out and Unplugged on DVD but that doesn't count...they need to do a massive box set of live stuff...Live & Loud would be a good start, that concert was awesome.
On In Utero it seems that true Nirvana fans class that as their best album as it shows their progression as a band and got more of that raw, dark energy flowing again. I quite liked Incesticide tho for a collection of rarities and b-sides it was pretty cool, and it had cunt hidden on the cover Radio Friendly Unit Shifter would have to be my favorite song, the whole irony of it was just awesome. I mean its anything but radio friendly Receiving transmission from David Bowie's nipple antenna. Do you read me Lieutenant Bowie, I said do you read me...Lieutenant Bowie

I consider them all Nirvana albums (even "Incesticide"). It's not that I don't like "Nevermind" or that it was 'too popular' - nothing like that, but when I listen to "In Utero" or "Bleach" I feel like I'm listening to Nirvana more than I do when I listen to "Nevermind." Did that make any kind of sense? "Bleach" is so fun because it was the first time I'd ever heard them. And "In Utero" just shows, as others have said, their progression as artists. Pre internet days I don't think I'd ever seen a picture of them and I thought Kurt looked like Tad from the way he sounded on Bleach. The first time I saw the clip for Smells Like my teenage reaction was 'what sellouts!' but when I actually listened to it, I thought the whole album was incredible. Because I loved Nevermind so much I approached In Utero with trepidation because I had heard it was unlistenable but really grew to love it the more and more I heard it. I didn't listen to Nirvana for about 5 years after he committed suicide but when I did I still thought it was awesome. I had Nevermind on rotation last year and the second side from Drain You is some of my favourite music ever.

If you thought they were sell outs from Nevermind selling like crazy then theres something wrong with you, I mean they were halfway through their world tour when it hit big and they were still playing in these tiny little places which were getting to many people than they could hold. Just the look of the video made me think that, it was my immediate reaction, and I was so shocked he was a cute blonde guy because from the way he sounded on Bleach I expected him to look like Tad But honestly I don't think they sold out at all. But they as a band were conscious of that perception. They didn't call their video 'Live Tonight Sold Out' for nothing. [Edited 7/8/08 0:19am]
