FISHBONE FANS!!!!!! Check out this band Fishbone. They are really crazy. They've been doing music for quite a while. I really like their mix of funk/punk/rock/soul etc. I don't get it why bands like these aren't promoted to the top. Sometimes I feel they got the short-end of the stick. I think they are more of a live band, that's not to say that their recorded stuff isn't good, but the lives are just nutty. ANyways, music is suppose to be live in the first place, being a live band is the most important.Ahh, I'll stop writing :

I know, ever since they were in highschool. I consider them another Funkadelic. It's too bad, they haven't got the recognition they deserve. ALot of bands have copied their style, like No Doubt and 311. Yet, they dont have that nuttiness, thats why this band is so good. [Edited 6/22/08 10:58am]

yep but its often the way, they lead others to the light while they stay creatively in the shade. Maybe they want it that way

I know they are from Los Angeles and still perform. You would've thought they'd have been bigger but they still support themselves as musicians so that's a plus. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Yes, in the Alternative/College Rock/Underground macrocosm, Fishbone are undeniably legendary. And it's not just measured by their amazing live performances either. They had their own blend of crazy sounds and sights, and put a whole new spin on what underground rock could be. And yet it's a tragedy that they were never granted much mainstream success.
It still perplexes me why a band like the Chili Peppers could do something similar and become a mainstream phenomenon, and yet their old school L.A. buddies couldn't get a taste of that. Well, there is the obvious reason, but I'm not gonna go there. Anyways, I believe everyone must see Fishbone live before they die. For the last 20 or so years, they were an unstoppable force as a touring band. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

STill perplexes me, well I dont listen to Chili Peppers, so I can care less about them. Fishbone is a mighty force, that even a crappy label deal cant stop. [Edited 6/22/08 13:22pm]

[Edited 6/22/08 13:22pm] I love both bands, and I know that they used to play together a lot back in their early days in L.A. But while the Chili Peppers went mainstream after they signed with Warner Brothers, Fishbone was barely getting mainstream recognition if any at all. I met Angelo last year and told him that Fishbone has to be one of the most underrated bands of all time, much to his delight. My man is hilarious. And you know what, being a young Black musician that thinks outside the box myself, Fishbone gave me a whole lot of hope. Growing up out here in L.A., I've had the previlage of seeing Fishbone SEVERAL times live. Way back since the early 80's. Same thing with the Peppers, who was heavily influenced by Fishbone. Both were local L.A. bands and I with a group of my friends used to always go see them play at the Whiskey A Go Go. There was no age limit there so there was no hassle with us getting in. I've met Angelo, Fish and several other members of the group several times. My band even gigged with Fish's brother Lonnie and his band Weapon of Choice. Fishbone is no joke. Highly underrated band. Very similar to Parliament-Funkadelic. Not in sound perse' but in concept. Fishbone played a variety of forms of music; rock, jazz, ska, funk, and through it all together. They were wild as hell back in the days. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Hey Blackguitaristz, Fish's brother is Norwood Fisher(bassist in Fishbone). Lonnie Marshall(a personal friend) has a brother named Arik, who toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the early nineties after John Frusciante left the band. Members from Fishbone, Weapon and the Peppers have played together in Trulio Disgracias. Release Yourself

Very good, very underrated band. I've not followed them faithfully, but they've long been on my radar to varying degrees.
I especially liked the band's roster around the time of Reality of My Surroundings. The complementary styles of Angelo, Chris Dowd and Kendall Jones (even though accusations of homophobia are often attributed to his personal religious convictions) was extraordinary. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I'm a long time Fishbone fan! Actually, we're brothers from other mothers ! Back in the day we had the same manager/booking agent and played many shows together. I still think Kendall Jones is one underrated guitarist, never getting the true props he deserved cause that cat played a gang of guitar and did it well! Now with Rocky George in the crew, the guitar happenings just keep on coming! LONG LIVE THE BONE!!!!! And Norwood gets a super thumbs up for penning one of my fave FB toonz, Lemon Meringue! In the face of dishonesty, the truth shall prevail! HEAVYMETALSOUL4LIFE!

Ahhh Fishbone.
I always try to comment on them when a thread comes up. Loved them since Truth and Soul. BTW, one of the best albums of all time! Most would agree, the golden era is 1985-1993. Everything they released during this era is a classic. Many line-up changes and several albums later, they are still going strong and releasing quality music. Do check them out. There is supposed to be a documentary coming out on them. Not sure of the release date. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.
